Best eSIM for Ghana: Choose the Right Network Before You Buy

Ghana eSIM guide with a scenic editorial illustration of the Cape Coast waterfront
Updated 13 October 2026. Prices, published networks and package conditions were checked against official provider sources. Prices are in US dollars (USD), before coupons. Offers can change; confirm the selected package and final amount before buying.

Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Read our affiliate disclosure.

The best eSIM for Ghana depends on the connection behind the package, not just the number of gigabytes. A plan can be easy to install yet leave an important question unanswered: which Ghanaian network can this particular profile use? That is the first detail I would check before choosing data for Accra, Cape Coast or a longer journey.

Price still matters, and the differences are substantial. In the current catalogue, MobiMatter’s NextLink package gives you 10 GB for 30 days at US$19.99, while Airalo’s 10 GB/30-day option costs US$29. Roamless offers a different proposition: paid credit that does not expire, with Ghana usage charged at US$6.45 per GB. Those are three ways to buy connectivity, with different reasons to choose them.

This guide compares five providers from our affiliate roster using their official Ghana product details. It explains fixed data, unlimited phone use, hotspot limits and the separate question of a local number, so you can choose for the trip you are actually taking.

The short answer

Airalo is my starting recommendation for flexible trip lengths and a clearly named LTE package. Fifi Mobile identifies AT(AirtelTigo), with 5 GB for 30 days at US$16.50. aloSIM is worth comparing at 10 GB/30 days for US$25, especially if its separate Hushed calling-app benefit is useful.

MobiMatter’s NextLink package gives the strongest fixed-data value among the matched 10 GB/30-day examples here, at US$19.99, and explicitly includes Nigeria. Roamless suits small, uncertain or backup usage, with MTN and Telecel listed. Holafly is the unlimited phone-data option, but its 1 GB daily hotspot limit needs to fit your plans.

The order is an editorial shortlist by use case. These are not Ghana speed-test results, and a published carrier list does not guarantee signal on every route.

Who is behind this guide? I am André, a Brazilian living in Belgium and the founder of André On Digital. I have used travel eSIMs on my own trips, including Holafly in Thailand. That experience informs the questions I ask about installation, activation, sharing and what happens when a package ends.

I have not field-tested these packages in Ghana. The Ghana recommendations come from current official product pages and support documents, with the limits explained alongside the benefits. Read more about André On Digital.

Five Ghana eSIMs: compare the package, then the price

The first four examples provide 10 GB for 30 days, making their fixed-data prices directly comparable. Holafly sells unlimited phone data for a chosen duration, so its seven-day example is a different product. All figures below are before coupons.

Vodafone is the legacy name retained in several product listings; the current operator brand is Telecel. The technology entries above preserve the package descriptions. They do not establish measured speeds, uninterrupted reception or a right to use every network in Ghana.

For Ghana, the network name deserves a closer look

The company selling the eSIM and the Ghanaian network carrying your data are different things. Check both. A useful product page names the local partner and the technology allowed on that package. A general promise of coverage across Ghana tells you less about the connection you are buying.

You may see Vodafone Ghana in a provider’s network list. That is a legacy name: Telecel officially replaced the Vodafone Ghana brand in March 2024. Read the provider’s original listing alongside that clarification rather than counting them as two networks.

AT needs care too. Telecel confirms national roaming for AT Ghana customers, but this does not tell you which networks a particular international roaming profile can access. Get that answer from the eSIM provider.

Does Ghana’s 5G rollout change the choice?

On 9 October 2026, Telecel announced a planned independent commercial 5G launch for December 2026. NGIC has separately announced wholesale 4G and 5G commercial operations. Neither announcement upgrades your travel package automatically. Check its listed technology, your phone and the available signal. A carrier list is also not a guarantee of coverage inside a particular building or on every road.

1. Airalo: a clear LTE option with room to choose your trip length

Airalo is our starting recommendation for a straightforward Ghana data plan. Its Fifi Mobile packages identify AT(AirtelTigo) and LTE in the current product details. That is useful information when comparing offers that name only the country. The recommendation reflects the documented package, not a claim that we measured the fastest connection in Accra.

The official Ghana catalogue offers several durations. A small package can cover arrival arrangements; a longer one avoids squeezing a two-week visit into seven days.

Data allowanceValidityPrice before coupon
1 GB3 daysUS$4.50
3 GB7 daysUS$11
5 GB7 daysUS$15.50
5 GB15 daysUS$16
5 GB30 daysUS$16.50
10 GB30 daysUS$29
20 GB30 daysUS$49

The practical detail is the small difference between durations. Five gigabytes for 30 days costs US$1 more than the seven-day version. If your itinerary includes Accra, Cape Coast and Kumasi over two weeks, choosing enough validity makes more sense than saving that small amount and buying again halfway through.

This is a data-only package. It does not provide a Ghanaian number, ordinary call minutes or SMS. WhatsApp can use the connection, but a service requiring a local telephone number is a separate decision. The current profile starts with first supported-network use and gives 365 days after purchase to activate. Follow its in-app setup instructions, including data roaming.

Airalo permits hotspot use where the device and network support it. Shared data comes from the same allowance, so include laptop usage in your budget. If the phone browses successfully but the laptop does not, check the purchased profile’s hotspot APN instructions before replacing the plan.

The profile is rechargeable. However, the package validity rules still apply: a refill does not make leftover data valid indefinitely. Our Airalo review provides wider app and setup context; its European observations are not Ghana field tests.

2. aloSIM: a clear data budget with a calling-app extra

aloSIM suits a Ghana-only trip when you want to choose your data allowance before departure. Its fixed packages run from a small arrival allowance to 20 GB for a longer stay. The useful distinction is the combination of LTE data, hotspot support and an eligible Hushed calling offer, rather than an unlimited-data headline.

2 GB15 daysUS$9
3 GB30 daysUS$11.50
5 GB30 daysUS$17
10 GB30 daysUS$25
20 GB30 daysUS$46

The official Ghana listing names Vodafone and LTE. Those are the labels used in the current catalog. A provider’s published network describes permitted access; it does not establish the signal at your hotel or on a particular road. Hotspot sharing is supported, and the phone and connected devices consume the same purchased allowance.

Understand the Hushed number before relying on it

The eligible Hushed offer gives you a US or Canadian number inside a separate app, with US$3 of calling and texting credit. You redeem it after buying an eligible package and use it over internet. It does not provide a Ghanaian +233 cellular number or a guarantee that a local service accepts it. The free-number period matches the data package, with a 30-day maximum for longer packages.

Install before departure, then select the eSIM for data in Ghana. If you need a refill, keep the profile installed. The top-up instructions say a new package added to an active eSIM begins when the current package expires. Our aloSIM review explains the service and calling-app arrangement in more detail.

My take: aloSIM is a practical option for a defined data budget and occasional app-based phone calls. If you need local mobile money or a Ghanaian phone number, arrange the appropriate local service separately.

3. MobiMatter: more data for a Ghana and Nigeria itinerary

MobiMatter’s strongest angle here is a specific package from NextLink covering both Ghana and Nigeria. That matters if your journey continues to Lagos or Abuja: the selected package lists both countries, so you do not have to infer coverage from an Africa label. It is also competitive for a Ghana-only trip with a larger fixed allowance.

DataValidityPrice
5 GB21 daysUS$11.49
10 GB30 daysUS$19.99
20 GB30 daysUS$35.99

The exact 10 GB product identifies Vodafone 4G in Ghana and Glo/9mobile 4G in Nigeria. The listing permits hotspot sharing and top-ups, and describes full-speed use without a daily data allocation. This means you can use the finite allowance unevenly, for example more on a day of transfers and less while on hotel Wi-Fi. It does not guarantee a particular download speed.

The package clock starts at the first data use

Validity begins when you first use data in an included destination. If Nigeria comes first, that starts the same package clock before Ghana. The unused eSIM must be activated within two months of purchase. Check your phone settings before leaving Wi-Fi: the 5 GB listing also instructs Android users to adjust the APN manually.

The 20 GB package shares the same published coverage and refill rules. This is data-only, with no phone number, and its listed internet routing is through Western Europe. Our MobiMatter review explains why checking the actual supplier matters when buying through a marketplace.

My take: choose this exact NextLink package for a larger fixed allowance or a Ghana and Nigeria route. Keep its 21-day and 30-day options distinct, and do not assume that another MobiMatter product uses the same network.

4. Roamless: keep a paid backup without a ticking data bundle

Roamless is useful when you cannot predict how much data you will use. Instead of buying a large Ghana bundle that expires during a short visit, you can add credit and pay for consumption. This also works as a second-provider backup, provided you check which network your primary package uses.

3 GB fixed plan30 daysUS$15.95
5 GB fixed plan30 daysUS$25.95
10 GB fixed plan30 daysUS$51.45

The Ghana technical listing names Telecel and MTN with 3G/LTE/4G access, plus hotspot support. It does not list Ghana 5G. Sharing data uses your allowance or paid credit, so tethering a laptop can increase spending even when there is no separate hotspot restriction.

Paid credit and fixed plans have different expiry rules

Roamless explains the distinction clearly: pay-as-you-go is charged by actual MB usage and paid credit has no expiry. A country data plan lasts 30 days from its first data use, after which unused data expires. The same installed eSIM supports both. Keep enough paid credit if you want a fallback after a fixed package runs out.

Data plans do not include native Ghanaian calling. Roamless app calls and phone-number subscriptions are separate services. Offers also need care: the referral rules distinguish invite rewards from promo discounts, prevent stacking on one purchase and require qualifying actions within 30 days of signup. An affiliate link alone is not a verified personal coupon. Our Roamless review covers how the balance and app work.

My take: Roamless makes the most sense for occasional use, uncertain trip length or a backup connection. For a planned 10 GB trip, compare its fixed-package total with the other options before paying for flexibility you may not need.

5. Holafly: unlimited phone data with a separate daily hotspot limit

Holafly suits travelers who prefer choosing days to estimating a fixed gigabyte allowance. Its Ghana package offers unlimited data on the phone. The trade-off is a separate 1 GB daily hotspot limit, which matters if you intend to work from a laptop.

The official Ghana page names Vodafone Ghana and AT Ghana, and describes 5G where available alongside 4G and LTE. Availability still depends on the phone, local network and location. This is not evidence of uninterrupted reception in every national park or on every intercity road.

Unlimited phone dataPrice before couponShared data
1 dayUS$9.501 GB per day
3 daysUS$20.901 GB per day
5 daysUS$31.501 GB per day

10 daysUS$47.901 GB per day
15 daysUS$64.901 GB per day
30 daysUS$115.501 GB per day

There is no Ghanaian number or conventional calling allowance. Validity begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network, and each purchased day lasts 24 hours. A local operator’s fair-use policy can temporarily reduce speed; the published restriction resets the following day. Holafly does not give a numerical Ghana high-speed threshold, so a precise daily full-speed amount would be misleading.

For occasional laptop use, the daily sharing allowance may be sufficient. For large uploads, cloud backups or extended video meetings, compare the fixed-data alternatives first. Unlimited phone use and unlimited tethering are different products.

The separate Always On benefit includes Ghana on its destination list. It supplies 1 GB of backup data every 30 days from installation, available after the primary purchased data ends. Unused backup data does not roll over, and the profile must remain installed. Treat this as a small reserve for messages or arranging another plan, rather than an extension of unlimited service.

Our Holafly review explains the wider service and our experience elsewhere. For Ghana, the deciding question is whether most of your usage stays on your own phone. If so, Holafly is worth considering; if the laptop is central to your trip, the daily sharing cap deserves more weight than the unlimited label.

Ghana travel eSIM data, Ghanaian phone numbers and Mobile Money shown as three distinct services
A travel data connection does not automatically provide a Ghanaian number or a mobile-money account.

Internet access, a Ghanaian number and MoMo are separate choices

A data-only travel eSIM can supply the internet for messaging apps without adding a Ghanaian +233 cellular number. For ordinary calls or local SMS, check whether the purchased product actually includes them. An internet-calling app with a foreign number solves a different problem. Our guide to eSIMs with phone numbers explains the distinction.

MTN Ghana offers local prepaid and postpaid eSIMs. It is worth asking about one if you need a local line, but confirm the current visitor onboarding procedure before relying on it. NCA’s 2026 registration guidance lists a passport and proof of entry for visitors. The document also describes forthcoming registration changes, so check the live process directly with the operator.

Roaming on MTN does not open a MoMo wallet. MTN describes MoMo as a service on Ghanaian MTN numbers, with separate enrolment and identity checks. Confirm eligibility separately and keep another payment method available.

Your home number is another consideration. If you need banking codes, use our guide to receiving bank texts with a travel eSIM before changing your home-line settings.

Match the package to the days you will spend away from Wi-Fi

An Accra work visit and a journey through several regions put different demands on the same allowance. Start with your itinerary, then ask the provider about the places that matter. These are planning checks, not measured coverage results:

Your routeUseful preparationQuestion to settle
Accra and a city baseSave arrival instructions and check accommodation Wi-FiWill the package cover work calls and any laptop use?
Cape Coast and KakumDownload maps, bookings and meeting points before leavingWhich network can the profile use along your route?
Kumasi, Tamale or smaller townsKeep essential details offline and confirm accommodation connectivityDoes the provider support your specific stops?

A second eSIM only adds a network fallback if its available networks differ. Two brands using the same host may face the same local gap. The Roamless review also explains the difference between keeping a credit balance and buying a fixed-duration plan.

For Ghana plus Nigeria, compare the exact two-country product with buying separate packages. For Togo, Benin or Côte d’Ivoire, check each name in the coverage list. Our Africa eSIM guide helps compare regional options; the international eSIM comparison is useful for a trip extending beyond Africa.

Buy usable data, rather than an impressive headline allowance

Check recent mobile-data use on your phone, then add what will change in Ghana: more navigation, photo uploads or a shared laptop. Divide the allowance by your travel days to see the budget you are setting:

Allowance and tripDaily budgetWatch for
3GB for 7 daysAbout 430MBBackground backups and video
5GB for 10 daysAbout 500MBPhoto uploads and shared devices
10GB for 14 daysAbout 710MBLaptop downloads and work calls

These are arithmetic planning examples, not measured app consumption. Unlimited phone data can have a separate hotspot limit or a full-speed threshold. Read both before choosing it for work. The aloSIM review covers fixed-data sharing and the separate Hushed calling offer.

Compare the total for matching dates and needs before applying a coupon. Our discount-code directory brings the offers together, but the final checkout and the provider’s eligibility rules decide the saving.

Prepare the eSIM before departure, then test mobile data after arrival

Check the exact model and region of your phone, including its carrier lock. An eSIM-capable model name alone is not enough. Start with our eSIM phone-compatibility guide, then follow the manufacturer and provider instructions.

  1. Buy a package whose validity covers your dates. Check whether purchase, installation or first network use starts the clock.
  2. Install with stable Wi-Fi when the provider permits advance installation. Save the instructions somewhere you can open offline.
  3. After arrival, select the intended mobile-data line and follow that profile’s roaming and APN instructions. Review automatic data switching separately.
  4. Turn Wi-Fi off and open a webpage. Confirm the phone itself connects before testing a laptop or another shared device.

If it fails, note the location, displayed network, active package and error. Check the supplied APN and contact support before deleting the profile. Reinstallation rules vary, and removing it can create another problem.

How I chose these five options

I screened our 19-provider affiliate roster, then compared the current Ghana products whose prices and material conditions could be checked. The shortlist balances a named local network, data amount, trip length, hotspot policy, activation, top-ups and a distinct reason to choose the product.

Airalo provides several durations with a named LTE profile. aloSIM adds useful fixed-data pricing and a clearly separate calling-app offer. MobiMatter’s exact NextLink package is especially relevant for larger allowances or Ghana plus Nigeria. Roamless adds MTN access and a different credit model. Holafly covers unlimited use on the phone, with its sharing limit made explicit.

I have not measured Ghana download speeds, latency or activation success rates on these profiles. The illustrations explain the choices and are not evidence of local testing. A local MTN line is mentioned as a separate option for readers who need a Ghanaian number, not as a sixth ranked affiliate.

Ghana eSIM FAQ

Which network should I choose for an eSIM in Ghana?

Start with the networks named for the exact package and ask about your actual route. A carrier list is useful, but subscriber share or a country-wide map does not prove signal at a particular address. Compare validity, data and hotspot rules after that. Updated October 2026.

Will a Ghana travel eSIM connect to 5G?

Only if the package permits it, the phone supports it and coverage is available. Check the technology listed on the current product, rather than the provider’s general worldwide marketing. Updated October 2026.

Does Vodafone Ghana mean a different network from Telecel?

Vodafone Ghana was rebranded as Telecel Ghana in 2024. Some travel-provider listings retain the older name. Treat that as a naming clarification, then check the exact profile and its supported technology. Updated October 2026.

Does a Ghana data eSIM include a local phone number?

A data-only package does not provide a Ghanaian cellular number for ordinary calls and SMS. If you need a +233 line, ask a local operator about its current visitor registration and eSIM procedure. Updated October 2026.

Can I use MTN MoMo with a travel eSIM?

Connecting through MTN as a roaming network does not automatically create a Ghanaian number or MoMo account. Wallet enrolment has separate identity and account requirements. Updated October 2026.

What ID is needed for a local Ghana SIM or eSIM?

NCA’s 2026 published guidance lists a passport and proof of entry for visitors and tourists. Confirm the current process with the operator, because the guidance also describes registration changes. Local subscriber onboarding differs from buying an international roaming-data product. Updated October 2026.

Can I use the same package in Nigeria, Togo or Benin?

Only when each country appears in the purchased package’s coverage list. A package labelled Africa can also exclude countries, so check the actual list and the event that starts its validity. Updated October 2026.

Is 10GB enough for two weeks in Ghana?

Spread across 14 days, 10GB provides about 710MB a day. Use that as a budget, then compare it with your recent phone use and any laptop traffic. App updates, cloud backups and video can change your needs considerably. Updated October 2026.

Does unlimited data also mean unlimited hotspot?

No. Phone data, full-speed allowances and shared data can have different limits. Check the daily hotspot cap and any reduced-speed policy in the specific package before relying on it for a laptop or a second traveller. Updated October 2026.

When should I install and activate my Ghana eSIM?

Follow the purchased profile’s instructions. Installation over Wi-Fi may be possible before departure, while validity can begin at purchase, installation or first supported network use. Confirm that trigger before installing, particularly if your trip includes an earlier covered stopover. Updated October 2026.

Can I keep WhatsApp on my usual number?

You can generally keep the number already registered in WhatsApp while the travel eSIM supplies internet. Ordinary calls and SMS on your home line remain separate. Review your home operator’s roaming charges and settings before leaving it active. Updated October 2026.

Will my bank still send SMS codes to my home number?

The travel eSIM does not receive messages addressed to your home number. That home line usually needs to remain active and able to receive SMS abroad. Confirm roaming availability and charges with your home operator, and arrange another authentication method where possible. Updated October 2026.

How do I check whether my phone will work?

Verify eSIM support for the exact model and regional variant, then confirm that it is carrier-unlocked. Check the provider’s compatibility instructions before purchasing. A phone advertised as 5G does not automatically support every eSIM profile or local network band. Updated October 2026.

What should I do if mobile data does not work in Ghana?

Turn Wi-Fi off and test a webpage on the phone first. Check the selected data line, package status, roaming instruction and the APN supplied for your profile. Send the error and location to support before deleting the eSIM or buying another package. Updated October 2026.

Final verdict: choose for the network, the route and the way you use data

For a straightforward first purchase, I would begin with Airalo’s Fifi Mobile options. The published AT(AirtelTigo) LTE profile and choice of durations make it easy to see what you are buying. Five gigabytes for 30 days costs US$16.50, only US$1 above the seven-day version. For a visit lasting beyond a week, that extra validity is useful. Choose it when the package and supported network fit your route, rather than assuming the first-ranked brand must suit every address.

For 10 GB or a Ghana and Nigeria journey, MobiMatter’s NextLink package deserves a direct comparison before you pay. Its US$19.99/30-day price is lower than the other matched 10 GB examples here, and both destinations are explicitly listed. Hotspot and top-ups are supported. Check that you select NextLink, because the marketplace’s other products can use different networks and conditions. If Nigeria comes first, that first data use starts the same package clock.

aloSIM is a sensible middle ground for a defined Ghana data budget. Ten gigabytes for 30 days costs US$25, and the eligible Hushed benefit may help if you want a separate app number for calls. Decide whether that US or Canadian number is actually useful before giving it weight. It does not replace a Ghanaian +233 line, and it does not open a mobile-money wallet.

I would choose Roamless for uncertainty or a paid backup, rather than for the lowest cost of a planned large bundle. Its Ghana listing names MTN and Telecel, while PAYG credit does not expire. At US$6.45 per GB, a small reserve can suit arrival messages or occasional use. Sustained laptop traffic can make that balance disappear quickly. Compare the total with a fixed package if you already know you need several gigabytes, and confirm that a backup adds a different host from your primary eSIM.

Holafly is the option for heavy use that stays mostly on your own phone. Seven days costs US$40.90 and ten days US$47.90, with unlimited phone data subject to fair use. The separate 1 GB daily hotspot allowance is the deciding limit for a laptop. If sharing is central to the trip, compare the fixed-data packages first. Its small Always On reserve is a separate backup benefit, not extra unlimited hotspot.

Finally, if a local number is essential, resolve that with a Ghanaian operator before adding more travel data. Save the exact package, activation instructions and support details before departure. A good Ghana eSIM purchase gives you enough usable data for your dates on a network the provider actually names, with limits you understand before you need the connection.
