Best eSIM for Peru 2026: five providers for Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu
Compare the exact plan and its local network, then prepare for the places on your itinerary. Provider details checked 6 October 2026.

The best eSIM for Peru depends on more than how many gigabytes the headline promises. For a Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu trip, start with three questions: which local network does the specific plan use, how long does its allowance last, and what happens when you use it up?

A 10 GB package valid for 30 days currently costs $24 with Ubigi, $25 with Nomad eSIM, $26 with Airalo and $29.99 with Saily. Holafly takes a different approach, with unlimited plans priced by trip length, including seven days for $32.90. The restrictions behind those prices matter, especially if you share data or travel beyond cities.

This guide contains affiliate links. I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The comparison uses published plan specifications, not a Peru field test.

My experience and the limits of this guide: I’m Brazilian and based in Belgium, and I compare eSIM providers full-time. I’ve personally used Nomad eSIM in Porto, Lisbon and Figueira da Foz in Portugal, and in Dessel, Belgium. I’ve tested Holafly in Portugal, Turkey and Thailand, and Airalo in Figueira da Foz. I have not tested Ubigi or Saily, and I have not tested any of these plans in Peru. My experience informs the setup advice; the Peru prices, networks and restrictions below come from current official sources.
Peru eSIM network comparison: match each provider and plan variant
Nomad eSIM changes network by plan type; Holafly lists two partners; Ubigi and Airalo list Movistar. Saily does not name a Peru carrier in its public technical details.

Quick answer: my five picks by use case

#1 Nomad eSIM, balanced fixed-data choice: Claro identified, 20 GB/30 days for $35, hotspot and active-plan add-ons.
#2 Holafly, trip-length unlimited: choose your number of days; seven days cost $32.90, with a 1 GB daily hotspot limit.
#3 Ubigi, 10 GB value: $24 for 30 days, plus unlimited options with a total high-speed pool.
#4 Airalo, short stays and top-ups: 1 GB/3 days for $4.50, with Movistar identified.
#5 Saily, security features: ad blocking, web protection and virtual location, alongside small 30-day bundles.

Install your Peru eSIM before you travel

  1. Check your exact phone model and carrier lock. An eSIM-compatible model must also be unlocked for another provider.
  2. Buy for the full trip length and install on reliable Wi-Fi. Save the installation instructions and account details. Installation and plan activation can be separate steps.
  3. On arrival, select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Enable roaming on that line as instructed. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM and disable automatic data switching if it could use that line.
  4. Check the connection before leaving the airport or hotel. Open a map and message your contact. Keep instructions available offline; avoid deleting the eSIM to troubleshoot.

Leaving your home number active for calls or SMS may still incur your carrier’s charges. Our eSIM activation guide explains the general phone settings, although its destination examples are European.

Travel eSIM or local Peruvian line? These are different purchases. OSIPTEL’s current rules require in-person contracting for foreigners with applicable identity checks. An ordinary passport-only purchase cannot be assumed. Check accepted documents with an official operator service center. International travel eSIMs can often be arranged online, but verification and activation requirements still depend on the product. See OSIPTEL’s current guidance and Claro’s foreign-customer notice.
International travel eSIM versus local Peruvian SIM: check documents and activation
Check the rules for the product you intend to buy. A travel eSIM, a local subscriber line and an optional app phone number are not interchangeable.

The fixed GB packages are total allowances, not daily amounts. Watch the validity: Airalo’s current $4.50 entry plan lasts three days, while Nomad eSIM’s lasts seven. Prices and networks: Nomad eSIM, Holafly, Ubigi, Airalo and Saily.

Airalo$27 / 7 days; $79 / 30 days3 GB per 24 hours1 Mbps until reset; hotspot uses same allowance
SailyCheck selected unlimited offerDestination-specific allowanceExact Peru allowance/duration not verified for this table

Ubigi’s 20 GB is a pool for the whole week, not 20 GB each day. Nomad eSIM and Airalo reset their high-speed allowances every 24 hours from activation. Ubigi’s structure may suit uneven usage; a daily plan can slow down after one large upload even if you barely used it yesterday. Holafly does not publish a numerical Peru threshold, so it cannot be treated as a quantified full-speed allowance.

Sources: Nomad eSIM unlimited terms, Ubigi seven-day terms, Ubigi 30-day terms and Airalo fair use. Saily advertises Peru unlimited plans, but check the exact duration and country allowance before comparing them with these verified examples.

The five Peru eSIM providers in detail

This ranking weighs published prices, plan flexibility, network disclosure and practical restrictions. It is an editorial shortlist, not a measured Peru coverage ranking: the right choice changes with your data use and itinerary.

#1: Balanced fixed-data options
Nomad eSIM
Claro on fixed plans; Movistar on unlimited

Nomad eSIM is my first choice for balanced fixed-data options: a clearly identified Claro network, 10 GB for $25 or 20 GB for $35 over 30 days, hotspot support and active-plan add-ons. Ubigi is $1 cheaper at 10 GB, so Nomad eSIM does not win every price comparison. Its separate Movistar unlimited range provides 2 GB per day, then 1 Mbps. Check which variant you are buying.

Validity begins on first use, with automatic activation after 60 days if unused. Buy any add-on while the plan is still active, before expiry or data exhaustion. These Peru plans are data only. See the official plans and my Nomad eSIM review.

#2: Trip-length unlimited
Holafly
Movistar Peru / Claro Peru; hotspot 1 GB/day

Choose Holafly when buying the exact trip length matters more than getting the lowest fixed-data price. It offers 1 to 90 days: seven cost $32.90 and fourteen cost $42.90. Its Peru page lists Movistar and Claro, but two listed networks do not guarantee uninterrupted coverage on a mountain road.

The main restrictions are a 1 GB daily hotspot allowance and possible fair-use speed reductions without a numerical high-speed threshold. It is data only. Its support update of 1 October 2026 says extending now requires a new plan and new eSIM installation. See my Holafly review and Holafly versus Nomad eSIM comparison.

#3: 10 GB value and total pool
Ubigi
Movistar 3G/4G; no Peru 5G listed

Ubigi’s $24 10 GB/30-day package is the lowest-priced equivalent among the four fixed-plan providers compared here, before coupons. Its 25 GB option costs $42. The reusable profile and in-app recharges are useful if you expect another trip, although a Peru-only plan does not automatically cover the next country.

Unlimited means 20 GB total over seven days or 60 GB over thirty, then 2 Mbps for the remaining validity. Hotspot is allowed. SmartStart begins validity in destination; unused plans expire after six months. These are data-only Movistar 3G/4G plans, with no Peru 5G listed. Details: official product page and Ubigi review.

#4: Short stays and top-ups
Airalo
Habla Telefon on Movistar 4G

Airalo is a practical short-stay choice: 1 GB/3 days costs $4.50, with Movistar 4G identified and top-ups available. Its current Habla Telefon catalogue also includes longer fixed and unlimited data plans. Current Peru packages do not include conventional calls or SMS, correcting the older calls-bundle description in this guide.

The 10 GB/30-day package is $26. Unlimited includes 3 GB per 24 hours, then 1 Mbps until reset; personal hotspot has no separate allowance, but sharing consumes that same data. Activation begins on first network use in coverage, and top-ups are available. For another country, compare a regional package’s actual country list. See current Airalo plans and my Airalo review.

#5: Built-in security features
Saily
Ad blocker, web protection and virtual location

Choose Saily for its included ad blocker, web protection and virtual location. Enable the features in the app; they are not a promise that every threat is blocked. The $10.99 3 GB/30-day plan suits light use. Hotspot is supported, but the Peru page does not name the local carrier, limiting route-by-network comparison.

Its optional phone number is US +1, not Peruvian +51: $1.99/month plus a separate call/text package, starting at $0.99, with identity verification. The Peru data prices below do not include it. Details: Saily phone numbers, Peru specifications and our Saily review. Data activates on arrival when enabled, with automatic activation after 180 days if unused.

Peru’s local networks: check the plan and the place

Claro, Movistar, Entel and Bitel operate in Peru. A national network award cannot tell you whether your hotel, trail camp or river transfer has reception. Nor does a network’s 5G coverage mean your travel eSIM includes access to it.

Use OSIPTEL’s map for your actual stops. Open Checa tu señal, find the locality or address, select the host network named by your plan and compare available technologies. The map distinguishes guaranteed from total coverage. Its current page identifies operator-reported information for the second quarter of 2026, loaded on 2 September. It is planning evidence, not our field measurement.

Coverage by destination: what to check before departure

Place or journeyCheck separatelyPrepare offline
Lima, Cusco and ArequipaAccommodation address and selected host networkAddress, transfer contact and arrival instructions
Sacred ValleyPisac, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and each overnight stopMaps, driver details and meeting points
Machu PicchuAguas Calientes, train approach and citadel separatelyTicket, entry time, meeting details and return booking
Inca Trail, Salkantay or LaresAsk your operator about the exact itinerary and communicationsRoute, permits, emergency contacts and charging plan
Amazon lodge or boat transferAsk the lodge about reception, Wi-Fi/satellite access and electricityTransfer arrangements and excursion information
Plan for periods offline on trekking routes. Do not depend on a live connection to open a permit or contact your group. Confirm communications with your operator before leaving Cusco. This is sensible preparation without claiming that every route has no towers or that reception is identical throughout it.
Offline preparation for the Inca Trail, Salkantay and Lares routes in Peru
Save maps, permits, meeting points and contact details before your trek. Ask your operator about communications for your exact route.
On buses, download entertainment before boarding. Long journeys make streaming tempting, but mobile reception can change along the route and onboard Wi-Fi should not be your only plan. Pre-downloaded video saves both allowance and battery. When sharing a connection, include the other device’s updates and uploads in your budget.
Peru bus journeys: offline downloads, data budgeting and hotspot checks
Budget for how you use your phone during transfers. A large data allowance does not create coverage where a route has no usable signal.

How much data for a 7, 10 or 14-day Peru trip?

These are planning estimates, not measured consumption. They assume maps, messaging, browsing and some photo sharing, with larger downloads and backups on Wi-Fi. Video, tethering and cloud uploads can change the total substantially.

Trip lengthPlanning estimateExample to compare
7 days3 to 5 GB for light use; around 10 GB with more sharingNomad eSIM or Airalo 5 GB/30 days: $17; Ubigi 10 GB/7 days: $22
10 days5 to 10 GB with Wi-Fi for large downloads10 GB/30 days: Ubigi $24, Nomad eSIM $25, Airalo $26
14 days10 to 20 GB if you upload regularlyNomad eSIM 20 GB/30 days: $35; Holafly 14 days: $42.90, subject to FUP

For laptop work, estimate the laptop’s needs separately. For Peru plus Bolivia, Chile, Colombia or Brazil, verify every country in a regional plan instead of assuming a Peru package continues over the border. Our South America comparison helps with that second decision.

Peru route checklist: Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and remote excursions
Check the exact stop and host network, save essential information, and confirm operator or lodge communications before remote travel.

Practical travel tips

  • Check the reset rule. A daily high-speed allowance and a total trip pool behave differently after a large upload.
  • Keep essentials offline. Save tickets, hotel addresses and meeting points before a train, trek or boat transfer.
  • Monitor hotspot usage. Holafly’s Peru allowance is 1 GB/day; other plans still consume their stated data or fair-use allowance.
  • Plan extensions early. Nomad eSIM add-ons need an active plan; Holafly now requires a new plan and installation. Ubigi and Airalo support recharges/top-ups.
  • Check your next destination. See our Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Brazil guides.

FAQ: best eSIM for Peru 2026

What is the best eSIM for Peru in 2026?
Nomad eSIM is my first choice for balanced fixed-data options, with Claro identified, hotspot support and 20 GB/30 days for $35. Choose Ubigi for the lower $24 10 GB/30-day price, Holafly for trip-length unlimited, Airalo for short stays and top-ups, or Saily for its security features. Check coverage for your actual route.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Does eSIM work on the Inca Trail?
Plan for substantial periods offline and ask your trekking operator about your exact route. A travel eSIM needs usable cellular coverage. Download maps, permits and contact details before departure, arrange meeting points in advance, and confirm how your group communicates when mobile reception is unavailable.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Which carrier does Nomad eSIM use in Peru?
Current fixed-data Peru plans list Claro 4G. Its unlimited plans list Movistar, with 2 GB of high-speed data per 24 hours followed by 1 Mbps. Check the selected package, since these are different network assignments, not two networks included in every plan.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Does eSIM work at Machu Picchu?
Check Aguas Calientes, the approach and the citadel as separate locations. This guide has not field-tested reception there. Save your ticket, entry time, map and meeting details before leaving your accommodation, so access to essential information does not depend on signal at the site.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Can tourists buy a local SIM in Peru?
Foreign-customer contracting involves in-person identity checks under current OSIPTEL guidance, and accepted documents depend on the operator. Confirm eligibility with an official service center before relying on a passport-only purchase. Travel eSIM identity checks are product-specific; do not assume every online plan is exempt.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Which carrier is best in Peru: Claro, Movistar or Entel?
There is no verified route-wide winner in this guide. Use OSIPTEL's coverage map for your accommodation and stops, then match the result to the host network of the exact eSIM plan. A national average speed result does not prove reception at a particular camp, valley or lodge.
Verified 6 October 2026.
How much data do I need for Peru?
As a planning estimate, allow 3 to 5 GB for a light-use week, 5 to 10 GB for ten days, or 10 to 20 GB for a fourteen-day trip with more sharing. These are not test results. Streaming, laptop tethering and backups can increase consumption substantially.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Do Peru unlimited eSIM plans have a daily cap?
Some do. Nomad eSIM provides 2 GB per 24 hours before 1 Mbps; Airalo provides 3 GB before 1 Mbps. Ubigi instead provides a total 20 GB over seven days or 60 GB over thirty, then 2 Mbps. Holafly publishes no numerical Peru high-speed threshold and limits hotspot to 1 GB/day.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Can I share my Peru eSIM with a laptop?
Hotspot is supported by the plans discussed, but restrictions differ. Holafly limits Peru sharing to 1 GB per day. With other plans, tethering consumes the same fixed allowance or fair-use allocation as phone usage. Check the exact package before relying on it for work.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Do Airalo or Saily include a Peruvian phone number?
Airalo's current Peru catalogue is data only. Saily's optional number is US +1, not Peru +51, and costs $1.99 per month plus a separate call/text package. The displayed Saily data prices do not include that number or minutes. WhatsApp can use the data connection.
Verified 6 October 2026.
When should I activate my Peru eSIM?
Install on reliable Wi-Fi before travel and follow the selected plan's instructions for activation in Peru. Nomad eSIM starts automatically after 60 days if unused; Saily after 180 days. Ubigi's unactivated plan expires after six months. Set the travel line for mobile data and check roaming settings.
Verified 6 October 2026.
Will a Peru eSIM also work in Bolivia or Ecuador?
A Peru-only package should not be assumed to cover another country. Choose a regional plan that explicitly lists every destination or buy another country package. A reusable eSIM profile is not the same thing as a data allowance valid everywhere.
Verified 6 October 2026.

Final verdict: which Peru eSIM should you choose?

My first pick is Nomad eSIM for balanced fixed-data options. The combination of a named Claro network, 10 GB for $25, 20 GB for $35, hotspot and active-plan add-ons makes it a practical starting point for a trip with hotel Wi-Fi. Check Claro against your itinerary. If you simply want 10 GB on Movistar at the lowest standard price among these four fixed-plan providers, choose Ubigi at $24.

For unlimited, choose the structure before the brand. Holafly makes a 14-day purchase straightforward at $42.90, but hotspot is limited to 1 GB/day and its high-speed FUP threshold is unspecified. Nomad eSIM resets 2 GB/day; Airalo resets 3 GB/day. Ubigi gives you a total pool, which is more flexible when one upload-heavy day follows several quiet ones.

Airalo fits a short stop or an existing top-up workflow; Saily fits travelers who value its security features. Saily’s optional US number is a separate purchase, not a Peru calling benefit included in the data price. For Machu Picchu, a trek or an Amazon lodge, save essentials offline and confirm communications locally regardless of which plan you choose.
