A long weekend in Prague does not need the same eSIM as a month of train journeys through Bohemia and Moravia. Start with the number of days you will actually use mobile data, then decide how much you need away from Wi-Fi. A cheap package that expires before your train home is poor value.
My starting point is Airalo for smaller allowances and Nomad eSIM for 20GB over 30 days. Holafly is worth comparing if you prefer a daily unlimited phone plan. Jetpac has useful larger bundles, while GigSky offers a small trial and longer-validity packages. The details below explain where each choice makes sense.

Local Czech eSIMs: check how the QR code is delivered
You do not have to buy a plastic SIM and convert it in a shop before using every Czech eSIM. The process depends on the operator and product. The earlier blanket claim about a mandatory 24-hour wait is not supported by the current operator guidance.
Vodafone GIGA offers 100GB for the first 30 days at 449 CZK, with a choice of physical SIM or eSIM. Its eSIM comes as a printed QR-code voucher in physical packaging. That can suit a longer Czech-only stay, but you need to arrange delivery or collection. The page says this product works only in the Czech Republic, so it is not the same proposition as a regional European plan.
O2’s eSIM guidance describes online ordering for a new eligible plan and SIM-to-eSIM conversion in My O2. It says processing can take minutes, subject to the relevant order and identity checks. Confirm the requirements for the exact prepaid or tariff product you want instead of assuming that every visitor can use every online process.
For a short visit, the attraction of a travel eSIM is straightforward: you can buy it and install it on Wi-Fi before leaving home. A local offer can still be a sensible option when its allowance, calling features and collection arrangements fit your stay.
How to install your Czech Republic eSIM before you fly
- Check the exact phone model and unlock status. Use the provider’s compatibility checker and my compatible-phone guide.
- Choose the right country list and validity. A Prague-to-Vienna train trip needs Austria included as well as Czechia.
- Install on a reliable Wi-Fi connection. Save the installation instructions and label the new line so you can recognise it later.
- Read what starts the clock. Installation and activation are not always the same event. Nomad’s checked plans start on a supported network or automatically after 60 days; Jetpac says unactivated packs remain available for three months.
- At arrival, choose the travel line for mobile data. Enable its data roaming when instructed, and turn off data roaming and automatic data switching for your home line if you want to avoid unintended roaming use.
- Check one simple task before leaving Wi-Fi. Open a map or send a message. If it fails, work through the provider instructions before deleting the eSIM.

The five providers in detail
Airalo: start with the allowance you will useAiralo is a useful first comparison for a Prague city break. The 3GB / three-day package is €4.50, while 5GB / 30 days is €7.50. If you expect to use around 10GB, the difference between seven days at €13.00 and 30 days at €14.00 is small enough that I would favour the longer option when travel dates are uncertain.
The checked data product lists O2 and Vodafone. That is a published roaming arrangement, not evidence that Airalo will be faster than another provider on the same network. Its 50GB / 30-day option is €33.50, the same current total as Jetpac’s 40GB package, so compare the extra data with any Jetpac features you would actually use.
For unlimited use, read Airalo’s fair-use policy and the selected package. Nomad eSIM: a useful 20GB monthNomad’s €17.86 / 20GB package is the one I would compare first for a longer Czech stay with regular maps, uploads and some tethering. The 10GB / 30-day plan is €14.28, so another €3.58 doubles the allowance. That is useful headroom when you already know you will go beyond 10GB; buying extra data merely because the price per GB looks attractive is less useful.
The selected 20GB plan names O2 and Vodafone, lists 5G and allows hotspot sharing. It also lists add-ons. The seven-day unlimited package costs €22.32 and is a different purchase: 2GB/day at 4G/5G, then 1Mbps, with no add-on shown for that package. A 20GB fixed allowance lets you use more on one busy day; daily unlimited spreads the high-speed allowance across the trip.

Holafly: choose by trip length, but check sharingHolafly is easier to choose when you want to stop watching the phone’s data counter: select your number of days. The checked prices are €3.90 for one day and €25.50 for seven. That seven-day total is €3.18 above Nomad’s daily unlimited package before eligible discounts, but the usage rules differ.
Its country page names Vodafone and O2 and describes 5G where available. The phone-data offer has no published fixed daily allowance, while Holafly’s fair-use explanation allows temporary local-network speed restrictions. Hotspot is 1GB/day, up to 7GB over a seven-day plan. That is enough to assess against your own sharing needs, but I would not buy it as an unlimited laptop connection.

Jetpac: compare the larger promotional bundlesJetpac’s interesting choice is currently between 30GB at €28.50 and 40GB at €33.50, both valid for 30 days. The extra 10GB costs €5.00. Its 20GB package is €38.00, so the larger promotional bundles make more sense while those displayed prices remain available.
That does not make every Jetpac package the best buy. Airalo currently gives 50GB for the same €33.50 as Jetpac’s 40GB. Jetpac’s reason to stay on the shortlist is the combination of data, permitted hotspot sharing and eligible travel extras. Its Czech coverage drawer names O2 and Vodafone. Unlimited is €26.00 for seven days or €63.00 for 30, with 3GB per 24 hours before a reduction to up to 1Mbps.
Jetpac advertises access to WhatsApp chat, Google Maps navigation, Uber and Grab after the paid data is exhausted on eligible packs of 3GB or more. Treat that as access to the listed functions, not unrestricted internet or a promise of service after the pack expires. Ordinary SMS is not included; voice packs are a separate in-app product.
SmartDelay requires advance flight registration, at least 24 hours before departure. Its published rules allow up to two flights per pack and one companion; a qualifying delay of at least one hour can trigger a lounge voucher. GigSky: a small trial and longer validityGigSky’s current Czech catalogue offers a 100MB trial valid for seven days. The public country page says no credit card is required. This replaces the older 500MB figure in the guide. Check eligibility when you sign up; 100MB is enough for a small trial, not a substitute for a full trip’s data.
The paid country range starts at €4.49 for 1GB / seven days. The 10GB / 30-day package is €22.99, above Airalo and Nomad at that allowance. Where GigSky becomes a different comparison is time: 50GB is €61.99 for 90 days and 100GB is €92.99 for 180 days. Those terms may interest someone returning to Czechia, provided the plan’s activation and expiry match the itinerary.
The country page allows hotspot sharing but does not name its Czech network partner. I would ask support if access to a particular operator is essential. A country plan is not a cruise or in-flight package, even though GigSky sells those separately. Read the GigSky review and verify the current selection through GigSky’s official Czechia page.

Czech Republic carriers: what the product pages actually say
Airalo, Nomad eSIM, Holafly and Jetpac name O2 and Vodafone for the checked Czech products. GigSky does not publicly name its Czech partner in the sources checked here. That is more useful than claiming all five have identical coverage.
T-Mobile CZ is not named on those four disclosed lists. This does not prove that no travel eSIM can use T-Mobile, or that GigSky cannot. Nor does sharing a host network guarantee equal speed, priority, latency or 5G access. The selected plan, roaming agreement, device and location all matter.
If a comparison gives a different carrier, use the provider’s selected-package details to resolve it. For example, the Czech Republic comparison previously referenced in this guide is secondary reading, not the authority for a current network promise.
Prague, the metro and the countryside
For Prague, Brno and Ostrava, begin with the package and your actual address rather than a city-wide speed claim. Thick walls, a busy event, your handset and the particular network can all change the experience. No speed test in this article proves a minimum download rate for your hotel.
The Prague public transport operator reports LTE/5G mobile service throughout the metro network, provided with the Czech operators and CETIN. That is useful infrastructure information, not a guarantee that every roaming plan will use 5G at every moment. Keep tickets and the route available offline anyway.
For Šumava, the Krkonoše Mountains and Bohemian Switzerland, download your map before leaving reliable Wi-Fi. Holafly’s country guidance specifically warns that service can be weaker or less stable in mountains, forests, national parks and roads away from major towns. A second provider on the same two host networks is not automatically a separate coverage backup.
Match the allowance to the journey
- A Prague weekend: a small fixed allowance can be enough if you use hotel Wi-Fi and save maps. Check the exact arrival and departure times against a three-day plan.
- Prague plus Brno or Český Krumlov: allow room for maps, tickets, messages and photo uploads between Wi-Fi stops. Compare 5GB and 10GB with a little margin.
- Remote work or frequent hotspot use: estimate laptop usage separately. Cloud backups and large downloads can dominate the allowance. A fixed 20GB or larger package can be easier to plan around than a daily reduced-speed threshold.

These are planning suggestions, not measured usage promises. Check your phone’s recent mobile-data history before deciding. Disable cloud-photo uploads on mobile data if they are not essential during the trip.
Check your existing EU roaming allowance first
Czechia is an EU country. If you already have an eligible EU/EEA mobile plan, your included roaming allowance may be enough, subject to your operator’s fair-use terms. Your Europe explains the rules. A travel eSIM sold as a Czech country product does not automatically include Austria, Germany or Slovakia simply because all are in the EU.

Final verdict: what I would compare for this trip
For an ordinary Prague break, I would start with Airalo. Its small packages let you keep the total low, and the 5GB / 30-day offer at €7.50 gives more flexibility than a very short package. If you want 10GB, compare the €14.00 monthly option with Nomad’s €14.28 equivalent rather than assuming a big difference in value.
For a longer stay with regular mobile use, Nomad eSIM’s 20GB at €17.86 is the more interesting step up. You can use the fixed allowance when you need it, including a busier hotspot day, instead of spreading high-speed use across daily thresholds. I would choose it because the allowance and expiry fit the trip, not because the shared O2 and Vodafone names prove better reception.
For frequent phone use, compare the unlimited rules before the price. Nomad’s seven-day €22.32 option is the lowest checked seven-day unlimited total here, but it has 2GB/day before 1Mbps. Airalo is €24.50 with its default 3GB daily threshold. Holafly is €25.50 and has no fixed daily phone allowance published, but its 1GB/day hotspot limit matters if a laptop is coming along. Jetpac’s seven-day option is €26.00 with 3GB per 24 hours before reduced speed.
For 30GB or more, make Jetpac earn its place against the other large plans. Its €28.50 / 30GB promotion is worth checking, and €33.50 buys 40GB. Airalo currently offers 50GB at that same €33.50 total. Jetpac’s eligible app access and registered-delay benefit may be useful, but they should not distract from the allowance you need or the expiry date.
GigSky is the specialist choice in this shortlist. The 100MB trial is useful for checking the service without committing to a paid allowance, while 90- and 180-day packages solve a different problem from a weekend plan. I would not pay more for its 10GB package merely because the brand sells cruise and in-flight products; those are separate services.
Finally, check your home plan before buying anything. If EU roaming already covers your Czech trip, another eSIM may add little. If it does not, choose a package with enough data, enough days and a country list that follows your itinerary. That is a more dependable buying rule than a blanket network ranking or a claim that every local eSIM involves a long wait.
