Airalo vs Nomad 2026: Which eSIM Should You Choose for Europe?

Airalo EU+UK 50 GB for €45 compared with Nomad Europe 35 at €31.35 on sale, both valid for 30 days.
Updated 1 November 2026. Europe prices are in EUR and come from the providers’ official storefronts. Prices are before coupons. Global plans are discussed separately; the new Nomad Pass subscription is quoted in USD. Check your exact package and currency before paying.

For a Europe trip that needs 20GB or 50GB, I would start with Nomad’s 35-country plan. Its 50GB/30-day sale is €31.35, compared with €45.00 for Airalo EU+UK and €64.50 for Airalo Europe. If I needed only 5GB, though, Airalo EU+UK at €13.00 would be the smaller bill. The choice changes with the amount of data, the countries on the route and the days on which you need it.

Airalo is worth a closer look if your route includes countries such as Albania, Serbia or Montenegro, or if you need a global package with ordinary calls and SMS. Its Europe page currently lists 41 countries. Nomad sells separate 35- and 36-country Europe packages, and the cheaper 35-country offer does not include Turkey.

A Paris, Rome and Lisbon trip is a different purchase from a route through Belgrade and Tirana. I would write down every stop, check the country list, then compare the amount of data I actually expect to use. That avoids paying for coverage you do not need, or buying a bargain that stops working at the next border.

This Airalo vs Nomad comparison focuses on Europe prices, regional coverage, daily speed limits, setup and longer trips. My practical experience includes using Nomad in Portugal and Belgium, as documented in my Nomad review. The package checks below come from official provider pages. They are separate from my personal use and do not establish which service is fastest across Europe.

Currency note: all Europe prices below are in euros. These are the amounts displayed by the official storefronts, not conversions from US dollars. Prices exclude any coupon.

Compare the same duration as well as the same allowance. Airalo sells some smaller packages for 3, 7 or 15 days, while Nomad’s 3GB and larger fixed Europe plans last 30 days. A cheaper 7-day price is not a like-for-like quote for a month.

Airalo EU+UK is a separate 28-country product. Its 50GB/30-day package is €19.50 less than the wider Airalo Europe package, but it does not cover Switzerland, Norway or Iceland. Choose the country list before deciding which price is better.

Unlimited does not mean full speed all day. The selected 7-day Airalo EU+UK package states 3GB/day before 1Mbps; the wider Europe package states 5GB/day before 1Mbps. Nomad’s selected 5-day Europe 35 package states 2GB/day before 1Mbps, allows hotspot and currently lists add-ons as available. Its details also mark the plan non-refundable. These are exact-package conditions, so check them again before paying. Holafly is another option for phone data, with separate fair-use and hotspot rules. Read more: Holafly.

Nomad has the lowest 50GB price in this comparison, but the smallest bill can still come from Airalo. If 5GB is enough for your EU+UK trip, paying €13.00 makes more sense than buying 50GB just because its cost per GB is lower. At 50GB, the difference between Nomad 35 and Airalo EU+UK is €13.65 before coupons; against Airalo Europe it is €33.15. Those savings only help when your route is covered. For 10, 20 and 50 GB over 30 days, Airalo EU+UK costs €22.50, €34 and €45; Airalo Europe costs €28.50, €44.50 and €64.50; Nomad Europe 35 costs €20.60, €24.18 and €31.35. Nomad 20 and 50 GB prices are sale offers. Prices before coupons; checked 1 November 2026.

What would change my recommendation?

The useful comparison is the plan that fits your trip. Here are four small changes that would make me reconsider the shortlist.

1. You need 5GB, not 50GB

For an EU+UK itinerary, Airalo’s 5GB/30-day plan is €13.00 and Nomad Europe 35 is €15.67. Nomad’s 50GB sale has a much lower cost per GB, but costs €18.35 more than that small Airalo package. Buying unused data does not make the trip cheaper. I would choose an allowance from my recent phone usage, then leave room for maps, transfers and an occasional hotspot session.

2. One extra stop changes the package

Paris, Rome and Lisbon fit all four regional plans in the table. Adding Switzerland removes Airalo EU+UK from that shortlist. Adding Turkey removes Nomad Europe 35 as well, leaving Airalo Europe or Nomad Europe 36 among these options. Adding Albania calls for Airalo’s wider Europe package. The extra country matters more than a small price difference.

3. Your busiest data day matters more than your average

As a planning example, 28GB over 14 days could fit inside Nomad’s 50GB/30-day allowance at €31.35. If 8GB of that usage falls on one laptop day, a fixed pool lets you use the allowance unevenly. Airalo EU+UK unlimited for 15 days costs €36.00 and has a 3GB daily high-speed allowance, followed by 1Mbps on the selected package. Its ongoing data may be useful, but the 8GB day would not all be at the initial speed. This is an allowance example, not a speed test or a promise of video-call quality.

For a seven-day trip, the wider Airalo Europe unlimited package costs €3 more than EU+UK: €25 versus €22. Its selected daily high-speed allowance is 5GB rather than 3GB, and its destination list is wider. That can be a more useful upgrade than choosing a brand from its cheapest advertised price.

4. You will travel again after this holiday

A long-validity fixed plan, an add-on and a subscription solve different problems. I would compare Global-EX with Airalo Discover when I want one allowance for several trips. I would consider the new Nomad Pass only after adding its subscription cost and expected add-ons. Keeping the same profile is convenient, but convenience has a price.

Details that can change the decision

Airalo EU+UK: useful when your route fits

Airalo’s 28-country EU+UK package includes the European Union and the United Kingdom. It is worth checking before buying the broader Europe product for a France, Italy, Spain or Portugal trip. The wider 41-country package adds places such as Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Georgia, Turkey and Ukraine. It does not list Moldova or Kosovo in the country panel checked for this update.

Nomad Global-EX: compare the year-long option carefully

Global-EX is a separate product from Nomad’s Europe and standard Global packages. Its current list covers 98 destinations, with 10GB/180 days at €34.93, 20GB/365 days at €52.84, 30GB/365 days at €70.75 and 50GB/365 days at €115.53. These are EUR storefront prices before coupons. It includes Oman but not the United Arab Emirates in the list checked here. The selected 20GB package starts on connection to a supported network or automatically 60 days after purchase. A 365-day validity is therefore not permission to leave it unused for a year before activation. I would compare that timing with the actual dates of my trips.

Value bundles: match the allowance to repeat trips

Nomad also markets Value Bundles for repeat travel. Treat them as a different purchase from a single 30-day package: check the destinations, the total allowance, how it is released, expiry and refund rules before paying for a larger balance. I would not buy bulk data just for a lower advertised unit price if the ordinary 20GB or 50GB plan already covers the trip.

Airalo Discover: data-only and calls packages

Airalo Discover currently lists 20GB/365 days at €61.00 for data only. Discover+ adds 200 minutes and 200 SMS to 20GB/365 days for €82.00, with a US +1 number. Both selected annual packages list 168 countries. Discover+ does not provide call forwarding or voicemail. Choose it for ordinary calls only after checking the permitted destinations and call directions. Compared with Nomad Global-EX, you are buying a different country list and, on Discover+, a different service. The validity starts on first connection in coverage, with a 365-day window from purchase to begin using the selected Airalo packages. For an extended stay in Turkey, check the published restriction on use beyond 91 days before buying an annual package. Read more: Airalo Review 2026.

Annual 20 GB plans: Nomad Global-EX at €52.84, Airalo Discover data at €61 and Discover with calls and texts at €82.
Nomad Global-EX covers 98 destinations; the annual Airalo Discover packages shown cover 168. The €82 calls-and-texts option includes 200 minutes and 200 SMS. Compare every destination and activation conditions. Prices before coupons; checked 1 November 2026.

New Nomad Pass: reusable does not mean prepaid

The new Pass launched on 20 October 2026. A 30-day Single Destination Pass costs US$5; a Regional Pass costs US$7. Each includes 1GB to claim every 30 days and 15% off eligible add-ons. The selected term renews automatically until canceled. Longer terms are charged upfront: a 365-day Regional Pass is US$68 before extra data. These subscription prices are quoted in USD, separately from the EUR travel-plan table.

For one holiday, I would usually start with a normal prepaid package. For repeat travel, the Pass is worth comparing if its supported destinations and add-on prices fit. The included 1GB is a small allowance to claim each period, not a fresh full travel plan. Optional automatic add-ons can trigger another charge when 500MB remains. I have not personally tested the new Pass.

Airalo’s New Airalo app experience also supports setting up a profile once and adding eligible packages later. That workflow is not the same as a paid Nomad Pass subscription. Check which Airalo experience appears on your phone and whether renewal is enabled for the selected package.

For the full Pass term table and the distinction from free Membership points, see my updated Nomad eSIM review.

Checked 1 November 2026. Official Pass terms and prices · New Pass subscription guidance. ANDRE15 eligibility is separate from the Pass’s own add-on benefit; do not assume the discounts combine.

Deleting an eSIM: check the recovery rules first

Recovery depends on the package and app version. Airalo’s standard help page now describes a recovery check for eligible deleted profiles. Its New Airalo experience supports retries or reinstalls on the same device, but new phones need their own setup and packages. Nomad also documents recovery with exceptions. Keep a working profile installed and ask support before deleting it, especially during a trip.

How I use customer reviews

Trustpilot scores and review counts change too quickly to be a durable reason to choose a travel plan. I would read recent reports about the destination and the problem that matters to you, such as activation or support, rather than treat an overall star rating as a network test. No review score in this comparison is being presented as measured signal quality.

Airalo Europe has 41 destinations and EU+UK has 28; Nomad offers separate Europe packages covering 35 or 36 destinations.
The regional packages have different destination lists and local networks. Nomad Europe 36 includes Turkey and the Canary Islands; Airalo Europe includes selected Balkan destinations. Destination lists do not guarantee signal at every location. Checked 1 November 2026.

A country count is not a signal map. The local networks can change between two regional products from the same provider. For example, Airalo EU+UK lists Bouygues Telecom in France, while its wider Europe plan lists Free Mobile, Orange France and Bouygues. Nomad’s Europe 35 and Europe 36 also have different partner lists. The table below records the package-specific examples checked for this update; it does not rank their measured speed. Neither provider can promise reception in every rural area, building or at sea.

Same destination, different regional networks

Nomad Europe 35 and Europe 36 both charge €20.60 for 10GB/30 days, yet their network lists differ. Europe 36 is not simply Europe 35 plus Turkey: its territories and partners also change. This is why I would open the actual plan details even when the data and price look identical.

For another example within Nomad, Europe 35 lists O2 in Germany, while Europe 36 lists Telekom. Both advertise 5G there. More listed networks do not prove a faster connection or manual access to every partner at every location. BASE and Telenet are related names, so I would not count those labels as independent backup networks.

Using the apps and topping up

I have used Nomad in Portugal and Belgium and compared the providers’ setup guidance. That experience helps with practical advice, but it does not establish which network is fastest across every destination. The two videos below are official provider walkthroughs. The written prices and package conditions were checked separately for this update.

Airalo: the app brings together purchases, installation guidance and eligible top-ups. There are now two experiences described in its help centre. If your app says “Just set up once and add data later” and shows a Packages tab, you are using New Airalo. The older My eSIMs flow may still give individual installation instructions. Follow the version on your own phone instead of assuming every purchase uses the same profile.

Nomad: open the package details before purchase and check its carrier, speed, hotspot permission, activation deadline and add-on support. These fields can differ even within the same brand. Nomad’s trial and rewards offers can be useful when you qualify, but they are not substitutes for checking the actual plan you intend to use.

Both providers offer top-ups or add-ons on eligible packages. The Nomad Europe 35 unlimited five-day package checked on 1 November lists add-on support; the earlier no-add-on wording no longer matches that package. An eligible Nomad add-on normally begins when the base plan runs out or expires, with its own allowance and validity. Airalo shows available top-ups after installation. Check the selected plan in the app before the balance reaches zero, especially when relying on it for transfers or tickets. Read more: How to Activate eSIM for Europe.

Illustrative Airalo and Nomad eSIM app screens comparing setup, data management, top-ups and profile recovery checks.
These are illustrative screens, not account screenshots. Check the exact package, app version, installation instructions and recovery rules before deleting an eSIM profile. The displayed 50 GB prices are €45 for Airalo EU+UK and €31.35 for Nomad Europe 35 on sale. Checked 1 November 2026.

How to Install Nomad eSIM on iPhone

Nomad’s official video below demonstrates installation on iPhone using the app, QR code or manual details. It helps you see the steps before purchasing, but follow the instructions issued with your own package if the interface has changed.

This is useful if you are comparing Airalo vs Nomad and want to see how the real installation process works before your trip.

After installation, label the line so you can identify it, select the Nomad eSIM for mobile data and follow its roaming and APN instructions. Keep data roaming off on your home SIM if you do not want that line to use paid roaming data.

Install with a stable Wi-Fi connection and allow time to follow the instructions. On a regional Europe plan, remember that you may already be in a covered country before your holiday begins. Connecting there can start the validity period.

How Airalo Works for Europe Travel

The Airalo video below walks through buying a plan, installation and mobile-data setup. Menus can change as the app is updated, so use the current in-app instructions if your screen looks different.

This gives a better idea of the full Airalo experience before purchasing, especially for travelers comparing Airalo vs Nomad in 2026.

Airalo’s app keeps purchases, installation guidance, eligible top-ups and data management in one place.

For a first eSIM, the useful question is whether your exact phone is compatible and unlocked, and whether you understand when the plan starts. Both providers offer setup instructions. If you need help, resolve it while you still have a reliable internet connection.

Limitations to check before buying

These details matter more than a broad “best eSIM” label:

  • Unlimited speed: Airalo EU+UK, Airalo Europe and Nomad Europe have different daily speed allowances. Holafly Review 2026 explains the alternative, including its own fair-use and hotspot limits.
  • Ordinary phone calls: the Europe packages compared above are data-only. Look for an explicitly labelled calls/SMS product if a phone number matters; do not assume a travel eSIM includes one.
  • Security tools: a data package does not automatically include a full VPN for all connections. Saily by NordVPN explains Saily’s features and their limits.
  • Renewal and expiry: Airalo supports renewals on eligible packages. A year-long global package, an add-on and an automatic renewal are different things. Check the package you are buying instead of relying on a brand-wide assumption.

If the plan does not work: contact support before deleting it

Keep the installation details and a screenshot of the error, check the selected data line and follow the package’s APN and roaming instructions. A general refund policy is not an unconditional money-back promise. Nomad’s selected unlimited Europe package is marked non-refundable; Airalo’s refund options depend on eligibility, activation, usage and the type of issue. Eligible Airalo app orders may offer Airmoney rather than a return to the original payment method.

Checked 1 November 2026. Nomad refund policy · Airalo terms. I have not conducted a new customer-support response-time test for this comparison.

Who Should Choose Airalo?

  • Your EU+UK trip needs only 5GB and the €13.00/30-day plan is enough.
  • Your itinerary includes Albania, Serbia, Montenegro or another destination in the 41-country Europe list.
  • You want a 7-day unlimited package and understand its daily speed allowance.
  • You already use Airalo and know how its installation and eligible top-ups work on your phone.
  • You need a separate global package with ordinary calls and SMS.
  • You checked the full route rather than choosing by the headline country count.
  • The current package fits your device, timing and data budget.

Who Should Choose Nomad?

  • Your route fits the 35-country Europe plan and you need 20GB or 50GB.
  • You value the current €24.18/20GB or €31.35/50GB sale price over a larger country list.
  • You have checked the 36-country variant separately if Turkey is included.
  • You want to compare Global-EX for repeat trips, with every destination checked.
  • You understand that unlimited Europe plans slow after 2GB/day and currently run for 5 or 10 days.
  • Your selected package permits the hotspot and add-ons you need.
  • You have checked any coupon or trial eligibility before counting on a discount.
Airalo EU+UK 20 GB for €34 and Nomad Europe 35 20 GB for €24.18 on sale, with route and global-plan differences.

Where Holafly fits alongside Airalo and Nomad

Holafly Europe remains an alternative for day-based phone data, with a separate 1GB/day hotspot allowance. Its current page says the product is for travel abroad and excludes domestic use, treating the entire EU as domestic for EU residents. Check that condition before choosing it for an EU trip. This is a current purchase restriction, separate from my historical use.

FAQ: Airalo vs Nomad

Is Nomad cheaper than Airalo for Europe in 2026?

For the 30-day 20 GB and 50 GB plans checked on 1 November 2026, Nomad’s 35-country sale offers are cheaper. But Airalo EU+UK 5 GB/30 days is €13.00, compared with Nomad 35 at €15.67. Compare the same duration and country list, then check coupon eligibility. Checked 1 November 2026.

When is Airalo worth paying more for?

When its package covers a destination missing from the cheaper Nomad option, or when a particular Airalo feature suits your trip. Airalo Europe currently lists 41 countries, including Albania, Serbia and Montenegro. If both packages cover your route, compare the allowance and features before paying more. Checked 1 November 2026.

Should Trustpilot scores decide which eSIM I buy?

Use recent reviews as supporting information, not as a measurement of reception at your destination. Overall ratings combine different countries, plans and support experiences. The comparison here uses official package prices and conditions rather than a star rating as a performance score. Checked 1 November 2026.

Can I reinstall an Airalo or Nomad eSIM after deleting it?

It depends on the package and app experience. Airalo describes recovery checks for eligible profiles, and New Airalo supports reinstalls on the same device. Nomad documents reinstall steps with exceptions. Keep the profile installed and contact the provider before deleting it; do not assume it can move to another phone. Checked 1 November 2026.

Does Nomad offer unlimited Europe data?

Yes. The 35-country Europe page lists 5 days at €17.02 and 10 days at €30.45. The selected plan allows 2 GB/day before reducing speed to 1 Mbps. Airalo EU+UK 7 days allows 3 GB/day before 1 Mbps, while Airalo Europe 7 days allows 5 GB/day. Holafly is another option, with separate fair-use and hotspot conditions. Checked 1 November 2026.

What is Airalo EU+UK versus the Europe package?

EU+UK covers 28 countries and costs €45.00 for 50 GB/30 days. The wider Europe product lists 41 countries and costs €64.50 for 50 GB/30 days. Check every stop: EU+UK does not cover Switzerland, Norway or Iceland, while the wider package does. Checked 1 November 2026.

Which should I choose for two weeks in Europe?

If your trip fits Nomad 35 and you expect about 20 GB total, its €24.18/30-day offer is a strong starting point. If you expect 2 GB every day for 14 days, that is 28 GB, so a 20 GB plan is not enough. Compare a 50 GB fixed plan with the relevant 15-day unlimited plan and its daily speed limit. Choose Airalo Europe if you need a destination absent from Nomad’s country list. Checked 1 November 2026.

Do the two Nomad Europe plans use the same networks?

No. Europe 35 and Europe 36 have different destination and partner lists. For example, the checked German partners are O2 for Europe 35 and Telekom for Europe 36, both advertising 5G. Both 10GB/30-day packages cost €20.60. Check the exact variant; the number of partners is not a speed-test result. Checked 1 November 2026.

Which is better for hotspot or a heavy laptop day?

Both providers support hotspot when the package and device allow it. A fixed pool can suit uneven usage: Nomad Europe 35 offers 50GB/30 days for €31.35 on sale. Unlimited packages have daily high-speed limits: the selected Airalo EU+UK package has 3GB/day, Airalo Europe 5GB/day and Nomad Europe 35 2GB/day, followed by 1Mbps. Choose by the busiest day as well as the total data you need. Checked 1 November 2026.

Can I add more data without installing another eSIM?

Often, when the exact package supports top-ups or add-ons. The selected Nomad Europe 35 unlimited five-day package currently lists add-ons as available. Eligible Nomad add-ons normally start after the base allowance runs out or expires, with their own validity. Airalo shows eligible top-ups after installation; New Airalo also offers a reusable-profile workflow. Check your package and app before buying. Checked 1 November 2026.

Is the new Nomad Pass worth buying for one holiday?

I would usually compare a prepaid plan first. A 30-day Regional Pass costs US$7 before extra data, renews automatically and includes 1GB to claim every 30 days plus 15% off eligible add-ons. It can suit repeat travel, but the subscription cost and add-on bill must fit your route. It is not unlimited, and I have not personally tested the new Pass. Checked 1 November 2026.

Which is better for several trips over a year?

Compare the destination list and activation deadline first. Nomad Global-EX 20GB/365 days is €52.84 and lists 98 destinations. Airalo Discover 20GB/365 days is €61.00 and the selected package lists 168. Airalo Discover+ is €82.00 with 200 minutes and 200 SMS. These are fixed allowances, unlike the recurring Nomad Pass. A longer validity does not mean every destination or a fresh allowance on every trip. Checked 1 November 2026.

Can I keep WhatsApp, and do these plans include calls or SMS?

You can normally continue using WhatsApp with its existing registered number over either provider’s data connection. The Europe packages compared here are data-only. The selected Airalo Discover+ global package adds a US +1 number, ordinary call minutes and SMS; check coverage and call directions. A travel eSIM does not replace access to your home number for bank or account verification. Checked 1 November 2026.

What discount does ANDRE15 give on Airalo and Nomad?

Our reader code offers 15% off eligible purchases at each provider. Apply it before payment and confirm the final checkout price. Sharing a code does not make the providers’ exclusions identical. Do not assume it applies to sale plans, unlimited plans, add-ons or subscriptions, or combines with Nomad Pass benefits. All comparison prices here are shown before coupons. Checked 1 November 2026.

For me, the deciding order is straightforward: itinerary first, enough data for the whole trip second, and the checkout price third. The cheapest cost per GB is useful only after the first two checks are satisfied.

Airalo and Nomad eSIM shortlist comparing larger Europe plans, destination lists and annual global options with or without calls.
Nomad Europe 35 offers 20 GB for €24.18 and 50 GB for €31.35 on sale. For longer trips, compare Global-EX 20 GB at €52.84 with Airalo Discover choices, including the €82 calls-and-texts option. Coverage, validity and eligibility differ. Prices before coupons; checked 1 November 2026.

Final verdict: which would I buy?

For a France, Italy and Portugal trip with a larger data budget, I would choose Nomad’s 35-country package. The 50GB/30-day sale at €31.35 leaves room to use data unevenly across the trip, without the daily high-speed threshold of an unlimited product. It is €13.65 less than Airalo EU+UK and €33.15 less than Airalo Europe at 50GB/30 days. For a lighter trip, I would compare Nomad’s €24.18/20GB option first, or spend only €13.00 on Airalo EU+UK if 5GB is enough. The right-sized bill matters more than winning a cost-per-GB table.

For a route through Serbia, Albania or Montenegro, I would start with Airalo Europe. Its wider destination list solves a practical problem. For Turkey, I would also check Nomad Europe 36; for a seven-day trip with substantial daily usage, Airalo Europe’s selected 5GB/day allowance at €25 is worth comparing with EU+UK at €22 and 3GB/day. I would choose from those actual differences instead of assuming one provider always wins.

My practical shortlist:

  • 20GB or 50GB on a covered 35-country route: Nomad Europe.
  • Small EU+UK allowance: check Airalo EU+UK before buying more data.
  • Albania, Serbia, Montenegro or another included extra stop: Airalo Europe.
  • Repeated trips over a year: compare Global-EX and Discover against the actual country list.
  • Daily phone data without a fixed total: compare the unlimited speed policy and hotspot allowance, including Holafly if it suits the route.

How this comparison was updated: I checked the official Airalo, Nomad and Holafly storefronts and package details on 1 November 2026. Europe and Global-EX/Discover figures are official EUR storefront prices before coupons. Nomad Pass is quoted separately in USD. My earlier Nomad use in Portugal and Belgium and Holafly use in Portugal, Turkey and Thailand inform practical setup advice; they are not tests of every plan or country listed here. The installation videos remain in place. I may earn a commission through affiliate links at no extra cost to you.
