Best eSIM for Spain 2026: 6 Providers Compared (Real Prices in Euros)

Before buying an eSIM for Spain, I would check the mobile plan already on my phone. That is what I used on my own visits to Barcelona, Ibiza and Mallorca: Three Ireland roaming. If your home plan already includes enough Spanish roaming data, an extra purchase may solve a problem you do not have.

If you do need travel data, Nomad is my first pick for a flexible Spain trip. Its current local plans name Movistar and Orange, give you 30 days on the main fixed allowances, and let you compare a Spain package with a broader European route. It is not the cheapest choice at every allowance. SimOptions has lower local data prices, while Ubigi is particularly competitive for a week of unlimited data.

Do you actually need a separate eSIM for Spain?

Start with the roaming allowance in your existing contract, not your passport. EU and EEA roaming rules concern the mobile subscription and its conditions. They do not mean every EU citizen has free data on every SIM, or that every visitor from the UK, US or Canada must buy a travel eSIM. Some plans outside the EU already include Spain.

Open your carrier app and check three things: how much data you can use in Spain, whether a fair-use limit or surcharge applies, and whether your particular island or onward destination is included. My Three Ireland example is a reason to do this check, not a promise that your current plan has the same allowance. The European Commission explains the roaming rules and fair-use conditions.

A travel eSIM becomes useful when your home allowance is small, roaming is expensive, or you want a separate data budget. Before paying, confirm that your exact phone model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Keep your home SIM available for your usual number if needed, but switch its data roaming off unless you intend to use it. Voice calls and SMS can still have separate charges.

Spain eSIM prices: compare the allowance and the expiry date

These are the current euro prices before coupons. A cheap 10GB plan that expires in seven days is not equivalent to 10GB lasting a month. Likewise, a local Spain package and a European package can have different networks and country lists even when the price matches.

#1 · My first choice for a flexible route

Nomad: a useful Spain plan, with a route check worth doing

My reason for putting Nomad first is specific: the current Spain offer makes its two partner networks clear, has sensible fixed allowances for a trip of up to 30 days, and connects to a service I have used myself in Portugal. The full Nomad review separates that personal experience from the current product research. I am not calling it Spain’s fastest network or the cheapest plan on this page.

All the current local Spain plans checked here list Movistar and Orange, with 5G supported. That is useful transparency. It does not prove that your phone will always select the fastest signal, avoid a congested cell or maintain service on every rural stretch. For a heavy upload day, I would also compare the 50GB fixed balance with unlimited’s 2GB daily high-speed allowance. The fixed balance is available across the plan’s validity rather than being rationed to 2GB each day.

Spain only, Europe 35 or Europe 36?

Here is the check I would make before paying: Nomad’s Spain 50GB plan costs €31.35 today, and its Europe 35-country 50GB plan is on sale at the same €31.35. Both last 30 days. If your trip continues into Portugal or France, the regional offer can buy a more useful route for the same current bill. The advantage depends on the promotion lasting and the country list fitting your trip.

The 36-country version is not simply the 35-country version plus one place. Its list differs, and it does not currently offer the same 50GB tier. For a Spain-only 10GB trip, the local €12.54 option is €8.06 less than either regional 10GB option. For 50GB across Spain and Portugal, the dated Europe 35-country sale is the more interesting comparison. The regional balance is shared across the trip, not renewed when you cross a border.

Setup and refills: install with an internet connection, and plan the purchase around the start deadline. The checked Spain profile begins on its first connection to a supported network, or automatically 60 days after purchase. Keep the profile installed. Eligible add-ons must be bought while the base plan remains active; do not assume you can recover an expired or depleted plan with a refill. Hotspot uses the same data balance and speed policy.

#2 · Clear island inclusion and flexible duration

Holafly: unlimited phone data, with a separate hotspot limit

Holafly is worth considering if you prefer choosing the number of days over managing a fixed total balance. Its Spain page explicitly includes mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, and lists Orange, Movistar, Vodafone España and Yoigo. That is a broader published partner list than Nomad’s local offer, not a guarantee of better reception at your hotel or automatic relief from summer congestion.

I have used Holafly in Portugal, Turkey and Thailand, as explained in my Holafly review. I have not turned those experiences into a Spanish network test. For this recommendation, the useful verified details are the island inclusion, the day-based pricing and the difference between phone data and tethering.

Unlimited does not mean immune to speed reductions. Holafly says a local operator may temporarily reduce speeds under fair use, with normal speed restored the following day. The Spain offer does not publish an exact daily high-speed threshold or reduced Mbps. Its separate hotspot allowance is 1GB per day, so a laptop-heavy trip needs more thought than the unlimited label suggests.

A Spain destination plan is not evidence of unlimited data in Portugal. Choose the appropriate Europe product for a two-country trip. Eligible profiles can also have Always On backup data, currently 1GB every 30 days in 150+ destinations, but that is a separate backup allowance. Keep the eligible eSIM installed; unused backup does not roll over.

For repeated international travel, Holafly also lists separate monthly global subscriptions: Light with 25GB at €45.95 per month and Unlimited at €59.95 per month, in 160+ destinations. Those renew monthly and have their own conditions. They are not the same purchase as a 30-day Spain plan, and the Spain reader coupon should not be assumed to apply to a subscription.

Install before departure, then activate on a supported network when the trip begins. A day is 24 hours from activation. Reusable Holafly profiles can support additional packages, so I would check the specific profile before assuming a new installation is necessary.

#3 · App controls and DNS security features

Saily: useful security controls without a bundled VPN assumption

Saily’s appeal is a straightforward app with virtual location, an ad blocker and web protection built into the eSIM service. Those are useful features to compare, but they are not a full VPN subscription and should not be described as protection for unrelated hotel Wi-Fi. The Saily review explains how the service fits into a travel setup.

The official Spain page does not individually name its local operators. It advertises 3G, 4G, LTE or 5G depending on the network available. If knowing the partner before purchase matters to you, that is a limitation to weigh rather than a reason to insert an operator name from a third-party review.

Unlimited plans provide 5GB of high-speed data per day, then up to 1Mbps. Saily’s support describes the reset at midnight in the eSIM’s local time. Hotspot is allowed and consumes that same balance and fair-use allowance. Plans activate on arrival with the correct settings, or automatically after 180 days if unused. You can buy another plan in the app, and optional Auto Top-Up is available.

Do not build the purchase around a free month of NordVPN Complete, an airport lounge pass or fast-track access: those are not confirmed benefits of the current ordinary Spain cards. Saily Ultra is a separate subscription. The current cards show 3% in Saily credits, which is a future reward rather than a reduction in today’s bill.

For the security features themselves, Saily’s official explanation and service terms are the useful references. DNS filtering cannot block every ad or threat. Any vendor-cited reduction in data use is not a guaranteed saving on your own trip.

#4 · Several validity choices and familiar top-ups

Airalo: match the expiry date to your actual stay

Airalo makes sense when you want to choose between short and longer validity periods without moving to a completely different service. I have used Airalo in Portugal; my Airalo review covers that experience. For Spain, the local product currently names Orange and supports 5G where available.

The 10GB options illustrate the trade-off: €12 for seven days, €12.50 for 15 days or €13 for 30 days. Saving €1 on a week-long package is only useful if it still covers the day you fly home. The checked seven-day unlimited offer is €22 with 5GB per day, then 1Mbps. That is the current Spain package rule, not the different allowance you may see on another country’s Airalo page.

Top-ups are available through the app after installation, and eligible renewable packages can renew automatically. This convenience is not exclusive to Airalo: Nomad has eligible add-ons, Saily has further plans and Auto Top-Up, and other providers have their own refill models. The checked local Airalo plan starts on first connection inside its coverage area and has a 365-day activation deadline.

For an onward route, Airalo Europe currently lists 41 destinations and starts at €5; EU + UK is a separate 28-destination product from €4. Both list Spain, Portugal, France and the UK. Neither checked list includes Andorra. Their Spanish network details differ: Europe lists Orange Spain and Telefónica Móviles España, while EU + UK lists Orange. Do not carry the local Spain network list over to every regional product.

The local Spain details explicitly include the mainland, Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. For the Canaries, check Airalo’s dedicated Canary Islands offer or obtain confirmation for the precise package rather than assuming the Spain label settles it.

#5 · Competitive short trips and recurring options

Ubigi: distinguish a holiday allowance from monthly resets

Ubigi has several good reasons to stay on the shortlist: €12 for 10GB over 30 days, €19 for 25GB over 30 days, and €18 for a week of unlimited data. Its current Spain product lists Orange Spain and 5G where available. The reusable profile is convenient for returning travelers, but it is not a unique feature or an unconditional promise that an unused profile lasts forever.

For the unlimited plans, the 5GB high-speed allowance resets every 24 hours from initial activation, with speed reduced to 2Mbps after that allowance. Hotspot draws from the same plan. These are package rules, not a guarantee that your connection will reach any particular speed.

The annual plan deserves a careful read. €29 buys 5GB in each of 12 months, not a freely usable 60GB balance on your next holiday. Unused data does not roll over. The monthly plans renew automatically and require at least three months, so the €4 headline means a €12 minimum commitment. For one eight-day visit, the €9 one-off 10GB plan may be the more sensible purchase.

Ubigi plans normally begin on arrival in a covered area, immediately if you are already there, and an unactivated plan expires six months after purchase. The reusable profile can terminate after 18 consecutive months without data use. After initial setup, Ubigi allows access to its account and plan store over its own connection even without remaining data credit; that still needs a working cellular connection. #6 · Small local bills or selected calls-and-SMS packages

SimOptions: two different reasons to compare the catalog

SimOptions now deserves attention for more than calls. Its own local Spain data plans have some of the lowest bills among the offers checked here, including 10GB for seven days at €5.90 and 50GB for 30 days at €27.50. The product cards specify 4G/LTE. Compare those exact cards rather than applying the site’s general 5G marketing to every plan.

The Bouygues 30GB offer at €30.90 lasts 30 days, lists 46 destinations and includes a French +33 number with calls and SMS within Europe. It has no top-ups. The Orange Holiday Europe 50GB offer at €36.90 lasts 31 days, lists 40 destinations, supports 4G/LTE and allows top-ups. It also includes two hours and 1,000 SMS from Europe to the rest of the world, alongside its European calling and messaging allowance.

Both checked carrier lists include Spain, Portugal, France, the UK, Andorra and Gibraltar. They are not the local Spain products. Also, Bouygues is the carrier brand behind a regional package, not evidence of a Bouygues radio network operating in Spain. My SimOptions review explains why checking the underlying product matters.

A French number is not a Spanish +34 number and does not move your existing bank’s verification messages away from your home SIM. Keep that distinction clear if calls or two-factor authentication are the reason you are buying. The Orange registration instructions also require registration within 30 days to retain the line and top-ups, and advise waiting until Europe before installation. Follow the instructions for the carrier package you actually choose.

The current SimOptions cards describe activation after installation on arrival in a covered country and a one-year unused eSIM expiry. That is separate from the purchased data validity, which may be as short as three days. The Spain FAQ explicitly includes the Balearic and Canary Islands and confirms hotspot support. I have no confirmed SimOptions coupon to add; the linked offer is the price to compare.

Spanish networks and the places on your itinerary

A network name is useful information, but it is not a field measurement. I would rather know the named partners and the exact territory list than accept a blanket “best rural coverage” claim. None of this research establishes a winning provider for every street, beach, mountain trail or busy August weekend.

For Mallorca and Ibiza, my visits provide travel context, not proof that every package here covers every location. For the Canaries, the contractual inclusion is the first question; the signal on a remote trail is a separate one. For Andorra, consult the Andorra guide. What unlimited data actually means on these Spain plans

The useful comparison is how much high-speed data you can use before the rules change, plus how much you can share with another device. “Unlimited” describes continued data access subject to the product’s conditions. It does not promise an unlimited full-speed connection for your laptop.

For a seven-day trip, Ubigi has the lowest unlimited price among these five checked offers. For flexible uploads, Nomad’s 50GB fixed plan may be easier to budget than 2GB per day: you can use more of the balance on the days you need it. If your work depends on video calls, test the connection when you arrive and keep another connection available. A published reduced speed is not an assurance that a particular meeting app will run well.

How much data should you buy for Spain?

Use your phone’s recent mobile-data history as the starting point. Maps, messages and restaurant searches are a very different workload from uploading videos, backing up photos or tethering a laptop. The examples below are planning choices, not measured daily consumption promises.

Setup and travel checks I would make before leaving

1. Check the home plan first. Compare the included Spain roaming allowance with the extra purchase. This is the first lesson from my own Three Ireland trips.
2. Install with a dependable internet connection. Read the exact profile’s instructions and activation deadline. Some carrier products have different installation rules. The eSIM activation guide walks through the general settings.
3. Set the correct data line. Select the travel eSIM for mobile data, enable its roaming if instructed and disable automatic mobile-data switching to your home line if it could incur charges.
4. Save what you need offline. Download transport tickets, the hotel address and route maps. Metro coverage and train connections can vary; a tunnel is a poor time to discover your booking exists only online.
5. Plan the whole route. A Seville-to-Algarve drive needs Portugal, and a Pyrenees detour may need Andorra. For Morocco, check the onward country and keep the sea crossing separate from land coverage.
6. Check the local situation. Ask a Camino host, rural accommodation or island rental about reception at the actual location. I would not choose a package solely because an article awards one carrier a universal rural advantage.
7. Control background traffic. Pause cloud photo backups and large app updates on cellular data if you want the allowance to last. Hotspot usage counts too.
8. Keep the eSIM installed until the trip is over. Deletion and reinstallation rules vary. Store the support details and check refill eligibility before the balance or validity runs out.
