Nomad is the budget way onto Telkomsel — the carrier that actually matters in Bali. Its fixed plans run on Telkomsel + XLSmart (XLSmart being the former Smartfren), and its unlimited plans run on Telkomsel only.

Two numbers make the case: the 10GB/30-day plan at $19 is the cheapest 10GB with Telkomsel here, and the 5-day unlimited at $18 is the cheapest short unlimited on Telkomsel — under Saily ($18.99), Airalo ($19) and Holafly ($20.50) for the same duration. Its 20GB ($33/45d) and 50GB ($41/45d) are also the cheapest big fixed tiers with Telkomsel. I’ve tested Nomad in Portugal — clean plan management, reliable delivery.

For Bali, the fixed-data Nomad plans are usually the smarter choice because they keep full speed until the allowance is used. The unlimited plans are useful for short stays, but the speed drops after the published daily high-speed allowance.

The honest parts: Nomad’s Indonesia plans are 4G, not 5G, and its unlimited has the harshest floor here — 2GB/day, then 512 Kbps (fine for WhatsApp and Maps, painful for video). So the smart move is Nomad’s fixed data (no throttle until it runs out) for the best Telkomsel value, and its 5-day unlimited only for short trips. Ubigi is the value pick almost no Bali guide lists, and for the tourist corridor it’s the sharpest deal here. Its Indonesia page publishes Indosat Ooredoo + XLSmart — a genuine dual network — with 5G, then prices like this: a unique 25GB tier for $28 that nobody else matches, 10GB for $16 (Nomad $19, Saily $21.99), and unlimited at $59 for a month versus Holafly’s $73.90.

Its unlimited also has the gentlest fair-use floor in this guide — 2 Mbps after the high-speed bucket (20GB on the 7-day, 60GB on the 30-day), where Nomad crashes to 512 Kbps. It’s reusable across 200+ destinations too.

Using Ubigi for Bali’s Main Tourist Corridor

Remember that Ubigi uses Indosat and XLSmart rather than Telkomsel. That makes it a strong value option inside Bali’s busiest areas, but not the first choice for Nusa Penida, Lombok or the Gili Islands.

The honest caveat that decides everything for Bali: Ubigi has no Telkomsel. On Indosat + XLSmart it’s excellent across Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Ubud town and Denpasar — but on Nusa Penida, the Gilis, Lombok and the rice-terrace trails it can’t match a Telkomsel plan. So Ubigi is the best value if your Bali is the corridor and the cities. Cross to the islands and you want Holafly or Nomad.

Airalo is the market leader for good reasons — the cleanest app, in-app top-ups without reinstalling, and the widest set of tiers — and its Indonesia plans run on Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), the merged Indosat + Tri network. That covers Bali’s main corridor well: Seminyak, Kuta, Canggu’s coworking scene and central Ubud all work on IOH.

Its short 5GB/7d ($12) is a tidy city-break plan, its 3-day unlimited ($11) is the cheapest short unlimited here, and its Asia regional plan ($4) covers Indonesia plus 17 other countries — the pick if Bali is one stop on a bigger Asia trip.

Airalo Setup for Bali and Multi-Country Asia Trips

Airalo is easy to manage from the app, especially when you need a top-up or plan to continue through several Asian countries. The walkthrough below shows the installation process and the settings to check before departure.

In Bali, Airalo works best along the main tourist corridor through Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. Its regional Asia option is the more flexible choice when Indonesia is only one stop, while Telkomsel-based plans remain safer for remote islands and rural routes.
