The best eSIM for Mexico depends on where you are going and what you need your phone to do. A week around Mexico City is a different purchase from a Yucatán road trip, a laptop-heavy stay in Oaxaca or a journey that also crosses into the USA. Start with the carrier and package details, then compare prices for the same amount of data and validity.
For a straightforward data-only trip, Nomad eSIM’s 10GB, 30-day plan at $15.50 is my starting point among these five. Jetpac is the more relevant starting point if you specifically want a plan that lists Telcel. Airalo adds a separate local calls-and-texts choice, while Holafly and Saily serve different needs. None guarantees reception along an entire itinerary.

Best eSIM for Mexico 2026: quick picks
1. Nomad eSIM: straightforward fixed data, 10GB for $15.50 over 30 days.
2. Jetpac: a documented Telcel option, 10GB for $24.99 over 30 days.
3. Airalo: data-only or a separate Chido Plus local voice/SMS package.
4. Holafly: unlimited phone data by trip length, with 1GB/day hotspot and named coverage exclusions.
5. Saily: app security features and eligible shared fixed-data plans.

Before buying: does your home plan already include Mexico?
Check your carrier account before paying for another plan. Eligible AT&T US plans include Mexico, and Verizon says its Unlimited mobile plans include Mexico use at no extra cost. This does not mean every older, prepaid or international plan has the same benefit.
Look for the high-speed allowance, hotspot conditions, local calls and permitted trip length. If those already fit, another eSIM may add little. If Mexico is excluded, or the allowance is too small, a prepaid travel plan becomes more useful. Canadian and other international visitors should make the same account-level check rather than assume coverage from their carrier’s name.

Mexico eSIM networks: Telcel, AT&T and Movistar
The exact package’s network list matters more than a provider’s worldwide coverage count. Read it alongside any exclusions, not as a promise that the phone will select every available Mexican network. A regional product from the same brand may use different partners.
| Provider / product | Published Mexico network | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Nomad eSIM | AT&T / Movistar | The checked 10GB plan specifies 4G; 20GB lists 5G/4G. No Telcel listed. |
| Jetpac | Telcel GSM | Mexico operator record lists LTE/3G/2G, not a verified 5G entitlement. |
| Airalo Chido data | Movistar 4G / AT&T 5G | Data-only and unlimited variants differ from Chido Plus. |
| Airalo Chido Plus | Movistar | Local voice/SMS bundle with identity verification. |
| Holafly | Movistar Mexico / Telcel | Named island and road exclusions apply. |
| Saily | Local operator not publicly named | Ask support before choosing it for a specific carrier. |
There is another detail worth understanding: Telefónica confirms Movistar uses AT&T access-network capacity in Mexico. Two network names therefore do not automatically mean two independent sets of towers, or double the coverage. Nor does shared infrastructure prove that two travel plans have identical routing or performance.

Where carrier choice matters for your route
Open the official Telcel coverage map or Movistar coverage page and check your accommodation, excursions and connecting roads. Then confirm the travel package is allowed to use the relevant network. Retail extended-coverage arrangements are not automatically benefits of every roaming eSIM.

Mexico eSIM plans: prices compared for October 2026
The tables separate fixed data, daily unlimited plans and a voice bundle. A 10GB allowance can be used across the trip within its validity; a daily high-speed allowance resets on its own schedule. Comparing only the word unlimited hides that difference.
Fixed data plans
| Provider | 3GB | 5GB | 10GB | Larger options |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nomad eSIM | $7 / 30 days | $11 / 30 days | $15.50 / 30 days | 20GB: $27.50 / 30 days |
| Jetpac | $10 / 7 days | $14 / 30 days | $24.99 / 30 days | 15GB: $29.99; 30GB promo: $49.99 / 30 days |
| Airalo Chido | $8.50 / 7 days | $13 / 30 days | $18.50 / 30 days | 20GB: $31; 50GB: $45 / 30 days |
| Saily | $9.99 / 30 days | $14.99 / 30 days | $23.99 / 30 days | 20GB: $37.99 / 30 days |
Among these matching 10GB, 30-day data-only packages, Nomad eSIM has the lowest listed price. Airalo’s 50GB option and Jetpac’s promotional 30GB option may be more relevant for heavier use. Jetpac currently lists 30GB below its 20GB price, so compare the available checkout tiers rather than assuming a larger allowance always costs more.

Unlimited plans: compare the speed allowance as well as the price
| Provider | 7 days | Longer example | High-speed policy / sharing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nomad eSIM | $22 | 10 days: $30 | 2GB per 24 hours, then 1Mbps; hotspot supported. |
| Jetpac | $24 | 30 days: $56.50 | 3GB per 24 hours, then up to 1Mbps; hotspot permitted. |
| Airalo Chido | $23.50 | 30 days: $62 | 3GB/day, then 1Mbps; hotspot subject to plan/device support. |
| Holafly | $24.50 | 30 days: $66.50 | Fair use can reduce speed; no verified numeric Mexico threshold. Hotspot: 1GB/day. |
These are phone-data plans, not a substitute for a guaranteed fixed-broadband connection. Saily also sells unlimited packages, but the fixed-data range gives a cleaner comparison here. Do not transfer a daily cap from one country or package to another without checking its own terms.
Airalo’s separate local calls and SMS option
| Product | Data | Local minutes / SMS | Validity / price | Important difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airalo Chido Plus | 10GB | 100 minutes / 100 SMS | 30 days / $26 | Movistar; valid-ID check; 90-day activation deadline. |
Chido Plus is not the $18.50 data-only plan with free extras. It is a separate $26 bundle requiring valid-ID verification. The official listing specifies local calls, and a number is assigned on activation at the destination. Do not buy it on the assumption that it includes international calls or guarantees acceptance of bank verification texts.
Best eSIM for Mexico 2026: five providers reviewed
Choose Nomad eSIM when you want a clear fixed-data budget. The 3GB, 5GB and 10GB tiers work well as starting points for a short trip with accommodation Wi-Fi. The 10GB price of $15.50 is attractive without requiring you to buy a month of unlimited service. Both AT&T and Movistar are listed, but Telcel is not.
The checked 10GB package specifies 4G; the 20GB package lists 5G/4G. Treat that as supported technology where available, not a speed forecast. Hotspot is supported, and eligible add-ons can reuse the same eSIM. An add-on has its own validity and does not roll unused data forward.
The unlimited alternative gives 2GB of high-speed data per 24 hours before reducing speed to 1Mbps. The checked unlimited package does not support add-ons. For occasional heavy upload days, a larger fixed allowance may suit you better than a daily reset.
Trade-off: good fixed-data value does not prove stronger rural reception. Check the network and route before choosing it over a Telcel-listed alternative. Read our Nomad eSIM review or Airalo versus Nomad eSIM comparison.

Choose Jetpac if listed Telcel access is your priority. Its Mexico operator record specifies Telcel GSM with LTE, 3G and 2G. I would not turn the site’s general 5G marketing into a Mexico 5G promise. The 10GB, 30-day plan is $24.99; a shorter 10GB, seven-day option is $20.
Its seven-day unlimited plan costs $24, with 3GB of high-speed data per 24 hours and then up to 1Mbps. Hotspot is permitted, subject to the package’s data and fair-use limits. A network name still cannot guarantee reception on every island, highway or excursion.
Jetpac lists restricted access to WhatsApp chat, Uber, Grab and Google Maps navigation after the allowance runs out on new purchases of packs with 3GB or more. Confirm eligibility on the selected pack. It is a useful extra, but it does not provide unrestricted internet or make those apps work where there is no mobile signal.
Trade-off: the fixed-data price is higher than Nomad eSIM’s equivalent allowance. The Mexico data plan does not include SMS or a Mexican voice line. Separate in-app voice packs are a different product, not free cellular calls bundled with the eSIM.

Choose Airalo for the distinction between simple data and a local voice bundle. Chido data-only offers 10GB over 30 days for $18.50, with Movistar 4G and AT&T 5G listed. It supports top-ups, and the 50GB option at $45 is worth comparing if several upload-heavy days would exceed an unlimited plan’s daily high-speed cap.
Chido Plus costs $26 for 10GB, 100 local minutes and 100 SMS over 30 days. It lists Movistar and requires identity verification. The practical reason to pay the difference is ordinary local calls and texts, not a vague promise that the app is better.
Trade-off: data-only is more expensive than the equivalent Nomad eSIM tier, and neither of these Airalo variants lists Telcel. See our Airalo review for broader app experience; the Mexico package details above govern this trip.

Choose Holafly when buying by the number of travel days is more convenient. Seven days costs $24.50, ten days $32.90, 15 days $44.90 and 30 days $66.50. The destination page lists Movistar Mexico and Telcel, with 5G where available and 4G/LTE.
The useful distinction is unlimited data on the main phone with a separate 1GB-per-day sharing allowance. That can accommodate occasional tethering, but it is a different proposition from sharing a large fixed allowance across a laptop and phone. Local fair-use policies can reduce speed; no numeric Mexico high-speed threshold was verified.
Its specific Holbox, Contoy, Chiquila, Ojo de Agua and road exclusions deserve more weight than the presence of Telcel in a network list. This prevents a fair unlimited recommendation from becoming an unsupported claim that Holafly is best everywhere outside a city.
Trade-off: extra days are not a conventional data top-up. Holafly’s current destination-plan help directs customers to buy another plan and install its profile; follow the instructions for your product. My use in Portugal, Turkey and Thailand is described in our Holafly review. For the broader trade-offs, read Holafly versus Nomad eSIM.

Choose Saily if its app features are useful enough to justify the price. The Mexico fixed-data range includes 5GB for $14.99, 10GB for $23.99 and 20GB for $37.99, all valid for 30 days. The public destination page does not name a Mexican network, so I would ask support before making a carrier-specific purchase.
Saily includes DNS-based ad blocking and web protection, plus a virtual-location feature. Saily explicitly says it is not a VPN. Do not confuse these controls with a NordVPN subscription or assume they secure a separate hotel Wi-Fi connection.
Eligible unactivated fixed-data plans can be shared through the app with up to four additional people, drawing from one pool. Each person needs an account and compatible device; unlimited and Ultra plans are excluded. This is different from keeping everyone near one phone’s hotspot.
Trade-off: its 10GB price is above Nomad eSIM and Airalo. The optional phone-number service supplies a US number, not an included Mexican +52 number. See our Saily review for the wider service.

Coverage by destination: plan for the stops between the cities
Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey
Check the hotel and work locations rather than assuming the whole city has identical service. Indoor reception, congestion and the phone itself affect performance. Save your Metro route before going underground in CDMX; there is no basis here for promising that only one carrier works throughout the system.
Cancún and the Riviera Maya
A hotel-zone stay and a holiday with daily inland excursions need different preparation. Include Tulum, Playa del Carmen, your beach accommodation and any airport transfer in the route check. Holafly’s named road exclusions are especially relevant if you continue toward Mérida.
Yucatán, cenotes and archaeological sites
Save maps and meeting points for Valladolid, Chichén Itzá, Cobá, the Puuc Route and Bacalar before leaving Wi-Fi. Do not count on continuous reception inside caves or cenotes. Holbox is a specific Holafly exclusion, not an island-wide verdict on every operator. Ask about your accommodation and ferry arrangements separately.

Oaxaca and its day trips
Verify Oaxaca city and the actual roads toward Monte Albán, Hierve el Agua or Sierra Norte. A town-level map is not proof of coverage at every trail or viewpoint. For remote work, keep an accommodation Wi-Fi option rather than basing a workday on an advertised network badge.
Baja California and Chiapas
For MEX-1, rural Chiapas or onward travel near Guatemala, check connecting roads as carefully as towns. Download directions, bookings and emergency contacts in advance. No recommendation here establishes an uninterrupted connection through deserts or mountain sections. For a longer regional itinerary, our Costa Rica guide is another starting point, not evidence that a Mexico-only pack covers it.
Mexico eSIM hotspot comparison
| Provider | Sharing rule | Practical limit |
|---|---|---|
| Nomad eSIM | Hotspot supported | Fixed allowance or unlimited daily high-speed policy still applies. |
| Jetpac | Hotspot permitted | No separate quota advertised; package/FUP limits remain. |
| Airalo | Personal hotspot when supported by device/network | Use the purchased package APN/settings; sharing consumes its data. |
| Holafly Mexico | 1GB per day | Separate from unlimited data on the main phone. |
| Saily fixed data | Hotspot permitted | Uses the same fixed allowance; eligible family sharing is a different feature. |
For two travelers or a laptop, estimate the combined usage. A 10GB plan does not become 10GB per device when shared. Cloud backups, software downloads and video calls can consume a fixed allowance quickly, so pause automatic uploads until you have suitable Wi-Fi.
How much data should you buy?
As a planning example, 0.5GB per day totals 3.5GB over a week; 1GB per day totals 7GB; 2GB per day totals 14GB. Add a buffer for your own habits and shared devices. These are calculations, not measured Mexico usage averages. Downloading maps and entertainment before departure leaves more of the paid allowance for live navigation and messages.
Mexico SIM registration and practical setup
Local Mexican SIM registration is operating in 2026. The CRT’s current registration portal shows the ongoing process, and Telcel’s instructions allow foreign visitors to use a valid passport or temporary foreign-national CURP. An extension of existing-line deadlines does not abolish registration.
International travel products must follow their own current requirements. Airalo’s Chido Plus requires ID, while its data-only catalog lists no identity-verification requirement. That product-level distinction is more useful than a blanket claim that all travel eSIMs are exempt. The CRT registration FAQ says a foreign SIM does not remove registration requirements in its country of origin and warns that prolonged overseas use may lead to cancellation.

Install before departure, activate according to the package
- Check compatibility and unlocking. The exact phone model must support eSIM and accept another provider.
- Install with stable Wi-Fi. Save the order, support contact and setup instructions somewhere available offline.
- Choose the travel line for mobile data. Review automatic data switching and your home line’s roaming settings to avoid unintended usage.
- Follow the package’s roaming instruction. Use the instructions supplied with that specific eSIM. Do not copy a setting from another provider or an older package.
- Check validity before switching on. Installation, first connection and an activation deadline are not interchangeable. Multi-country plans can start at an earlier covered stop.
Our eSIM installation guide covers the general process, and the connection troubleshooting guide can help with settings. Their Europe examples do not override Mexico-specific product instructions.
For travel planning beyond connectivity, use the official Visit Mexico portal. For a USA or Canada extension, compare a regional package’s country list and validity with separate destination plans before buying.
FAQ: best eSIM for Mexico

Final verdict: which Mexico eSIM would I choose?
First, I would check whether my existing plan already covers the trip. If I needed a separate data package, Nomad eSIM’s 10GB for $15.50 would be my starting point for a manageable fixed budget. Its price advantage is specific and easy to compare; it is not a claim of better reception.
If the itinerary made listed Telcel access a priority, I would compare Jetpac first, then inspect the actual coverage requirements. Holafly also lists Telcel, but its exclusions mean I would not choose it for a Holbox stay simply because of that network name.
Airalo Chido Plus has the clearest separate purpose for someone who needs local cellular calls and SMS. For a phone-heavy trip with suitable coverage, Holafly offers a convenient day-based unlimited option, provided 1GB/day of hotspot is enough. Saily earns its place through security controls and eligible family sharing, rather than the cheapest 10GB price.
The right purchase is the package that fits the route and daily use without paying for features you will not need. Check its limits, keep offline essentials, and compare the final price after any eligible coupon.
