There are two other prices worth noticing: 3GB/30 days costs the same $5 as 1GB/seven days, while the 50GB/30-day sale is $30. Airalo is a stronger fit when you need ordinary domestic calls and texts. For unlimited data, compare the daily speed policy and hotspot rules before choosing.
A New York weekend, two weeks between national parks and a month working from a laptop are different purchases. The useful question is how much of the allowance you can use, on which days, before it expires. A larger fixed balance may suit one heavy upload day; an unlimited package can retain reduced-speed access after its daily threshold. Neither label replaces a route check.

A travel eSIM installs a digital mobile-data profile on a compatible phone. Choose a plan that lasts until departure, supplies enough data and names suitable networks for your stops. Installation and activation are separate steps: installing at home usually prepares the profile, while the plan’s own activation rule determines when its validity begins.
Start with your exact phone model, purchase region and carrier lock. Broad rules such as “every recent iPhone works” miss regional exceptions. For two weeks needing 10GB, Nomad eSIM costs $13 and lasts 30 days. Jetpac’s 30-day package is $19 on sale, Airalo’s 15-day option is $22 and Saily’s current 30-day option is $22.99. The $10.50 SimOptions 10GB sale shown later lasts only seven days. A cheaper package that expires halfway through the trip is a different purchase.

Airalo calls and SMS option
Airalo offers a separate Data/Calls/Texts option. Its 10GB, 100-minute and 100-SMS package costs $28 for seven days, $29 for 15 days or $30 for 30 days. At 30 days, the calls/texts version adds $7.50 to the $22.50 data-only price. Select the product explicitly; buying data-only does not add a number or ordinary calls later by itself.

These are supported-network and policy descriptions, not speed-test results. Network technology also depends on your device, location and roaming entitlement. Airalo’s generic page copy differs from its package details, so check the exact product instead of reading every “5G” mention as applying to every package. A reduced-speed limit is a ceiling, not a guaranteed minimum.
T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon: check your actual route
A nationwide carrier stereotype is less useful than the roads and towns on your itinerary. Two network names can offer options, but they do not establish seamless switching, identical priority to a domestic subscriber or reception inside every building.
- Write down your overnight stops, long driving sections and any territory or island visit.
- Open the FCC National Broadband Map, choose Mobile Broadband and compare relevant carriers. For driving, use the in-vehicle setting and check both 4G and 5G.
- Compare those estimates with the travel provider’s product terms and ask about uncertain destinations before buying.
The FCC map uses provider-reported coverage estimates. Indoor reception, terrain, capacity and travel-eSIM roaming arrangements can change the experience. The FCC’s map instructions explain the available views. Save maps offline even when the route looks covered.

The $5 choice is easy to miss: Nomad currently lists both 1GB/seven days and 3GB/30 days at $5. If both remain available for your purchase, the 3GB package gives more data and a longer validity for the same base price. This is a comparison within the checked Nomad catalogue, not a claim that it is the cheapest eSIM in the market.
All 11 current USA packages list AT&T 5G and Verizon LTE. The three unlimited options include 2GB at normal speed per 24 hours from activation, then 1Mbps until the next cycle. Seven days of unlimited at $23 does not give a freely spendable 14GB high-speed balance on day one. The 50GB fixed plan has a different advantage, while unlimited retains reduced-speed access after its daily threshold.
The plan starts on supported-network use, or automatically 60 days after purchase if unused. The 75GB/180-day and 100GB/365-day products are single allowances over continuous validity, with no monthly refill. For these Amber plans, buy an add-on while the base plan is still active, before it runs out or expires. Generic marketing copy is broader, so confirm your selected package. USA unlimited gives 5GB/day, then 1Mbps, with hotspot sharing that allowance. Hawaii and Puerto Rico are explicitly included; Alaska availability is described as limited. None of these statements promises reception on a particular trail or road.
Activation starts on first use in the coverage area, with 365 days to activate an unused purchase. The current catalogue marks the packages as rechargeable. Optional renewals can buy another plan when data drops to 10%, then activate it when data runs out. Enable the option before depletion or expiry. Running out of call minutes does not itself trigger a data-based renewal.
For the Data/Calls/Texts option, incoming calls consume the minutes balance. Local calls/texts packages are for domestic communication; outgoing international calls are excluded. Unlimited does not promise permanently unrestricted speed. The local operator can apply fair-use throttling, with restoration the following day; no numerical USA high-speed threshold or reduced speed is published. This is a data-only package, without a local number or ordinary calls/SMS. Install before departure, then enable the line and data roaming on arrival. The selected duration runs from the first supported-network connection; a one-day plan lasts 24 hours.
The newer Holafly reuse and extra-days policy changes how a longer trip works. For eligible purchases from 30 September 2026 onward, extra days or another destination bought with the original email link to the eSIM already installed. USA is not on the single-use exception list. Extra days for the same active trip queue after it ends; keep the profile installed. This does not turn a daily prepaid purchase into an automatically renewing monthly subscription. The USA product is intended for travel abroad, with domestic use in your home country excluded by its FAQ.
The USA page states all 50 states, including Hawaii and Alaska, subject to local network availability. It does not explicitly establish Puerto Rico inclusion. Its Always On backup has a separate destination list and allowance, so do not use that benefit as proof that the full USA package covers an additional territory. Coverage by region: plan beyond the arrival airport
Major cities and interstate highways
For New York, Miami, Orlando, Los Angeles or Las Vegas, compare the whole stay, hotel connectivity and how much video you upload. A city itinerary still does not guarantee indoor reception. On highways, inspect the stretches between overnight stops, including detours, instead of checking only the departure and arrival cities.
National parks
The National Park Service describes service as variable between parks and within them. Some developed areas have infrastructure; remote trails can be disconnected. No evidence here establishes a nationwide winning carrier for park visits.

Separate Hawaii or Puerto Rico products exist at some providers. That alone proves neither inclusion nor exclusion in their USA package. Alaska travelers should distinguish a city stop from a remote road or ferry itinerary and obtain specific coverage confirmation.
